I recently got my hands on what looks to be an original rear spoiler but when I mounted it to the trunk of my Skylark the ends hit the quarters when I went to close the trunk. The uprights are much shorter than the aftermarket 3-piece spoiler that I had on the car. At first, I thought that maybe the spoiler was from a Pontiac or Olds but I the pictures that I see of those the spoilers look completely different than a Buick spoiler. This one that I have looks identical to all the ones that I see for the Skylark but it is too short. Any idea's what that is about?
If you are trying to put it on a convertible they do not fit correctly and you have to work on the ends to make it fit. Off hand I don’t remember if you have to add or subtract material from the ends. If you are going to post some pics, take some of the bottom side of the pedestals and measure the length of the pedestal (front to back) and post that. Also list the number of holes on the underside, and where they are located. (If they are centered or off to one side.) Duane
Agreed. I have been in and out of Buicks since 1997. This forum has been a huge help and it's full of good people. Sadly, forums like this are very hard to find. As to the FB guy, I could tell he had issues. He's never specifically said what his problems with the people here are, but he sure is angry and likes to cast general aspersions towards the members here.
What I found in my saved BuildSheets... GSX Rear Spoiler Difference By Duane Heckman www.stage1registry.com/Temp/2006_04.pdf 1970-1972 GSX and GSX Specific Options By Duane Heckman. (It's funny...forgot all about that shifter boot retaining ring ) www.stage1registry.com/Temp/2007_03.pdf
Marco, Those rings work on both the lower shifter boot for the consolette equipped cars as well as the boot for the non-consolette cars. My hands still remember making them. Duane
Brad, I got this result today while doing a Google image search for Chumbley Chevrolet, Ypsilanti, MI:
I'm shocked the drivers door closes as well as it does...every photo I've seen has that door open. Surprised it didn't sag!
Did Jim Morrison have an issue with Buick's "Light Your Fire" pitch? I thought I read that somewhere a long time ago.
From what I read, Buick approached the band when Morrison was out of the country. They signed a contract to allow Buick to use the "Light your fire" lyrics and the song. Morrison came back and flipped out. He threatened to put a Buick on stage and trash it. Eventually, they agreed to let Buick use the slogan but without the music
So they had actual TV ads showing the 70 GS 455 with the Doors song Light Your Fire playing? Well at least the ones that got out in the South?
