I need to remove the radio from a 2003 Taurus. I know that I need the DIN tool. Anyone ever remove one of these and knows the procedure?
Push the tool in, one on each side, until it snaps in. Pull the two in an outward motion (you can feel the spring clip) then kind of jerk out the radio with the tool while prying outward on them.:TU:
You can do it without buying the tool. You need 4 pieces of heavy wire about the same diameter as a sears craftsman #0 philips screwdriver. The screwdriver works great but I doubt you have 4 of them.
Thanks for the replys I bought the tool and it only works on one side. Seems like it should be simple. Played with the %$&^%$ thing for an hour. Right side just pops right out left side nothing. Going to try something thicker and see how if that will work. #^%&^% Ford. (hey it was CHEAP)
That happens. Try and push in the radio on just the left side to release the spring clip then give it a sharp yank (on just the left side). That should knock it loose. Then you can start all over with both sides. It takes some playing with sometimes.
I agree with Guy. You have to play with it, it's difficult. Get the difficult side barely clear and then hold it while you play with the other side.
We always used two of those U shaped special tools and pulled it straight out. They were a bitch when you tried to do it with one side at a time.
You guys are trying way too hard. Park the car in the right neighborhood and the radio will remove itself.
Best idea so far. I want to remove the radio so I can add an XM tuner to it. Even though it my beater I still like my tunes. To add it I need to install the antenna adaptor into the stock system. So far I have not been able to get it our. It's one of those jobs where the easy part is impossible.
If your Torus is the same as my daugters, the radio is in 2 pieces. The other part is in the lower left side of the trunk, and that is where the antenna hooks up.
