Don't get me wrong it's a great car in it's own right but if it was me and I did all that work to clean it up there would be pictures of the SS stamping on the block, the Vin number on the transmission case, the ON stamped on the rear yada yada yada. Numbers bring the big Money.
Call me a little skeptical on the car. 18k miles but the rugs are thin. Unless it sat out sounds like alot of bad sheet metal. No engine compartment detail. Funky battery cables. No front cross bars. If I was in the market I would sure go look it over to see just how solid and original it is.
He clearly says in the ad: "Its an all matched number car bought new in Delaware." Cool car. I suspect it won't meet reserve on eBay but will change hands behind the scenes. The eBay ad is just a way to advertise it. A serious buyer will call and make a deal. I'm still surprised the guy can repair body panels but can't use a camera to get photos that aren't hazy.
I still think the barn it was supposed to have been found in maybe didn't have a roof on it. Maybe explains the sad condition with only 18k, and less than two normal years use, on the odom.
You can make a car a survivor car if the odometer has rolled over or with the use of a drill or replace the gauge cluster and just destroy the paperwork after the first couple years of the cars life.
I may or may not have a re-cored Harrison that falls within this build date.... A lot of questions, obviously and definitely something that someone needs to go over with a fine tooth comb and a camera built after 1993.
GUYS , Remember one thing , this is a 70 White GSX Stage 1 4 spd car . Very low production and even if its not perfect, its still a GSX !!! Most of use didn't pay an arm and leg years ago , but today there are no bargains out there . Would love to have it in my garage ! Bill
"I still think the barn it was supposed to have been found in maybe didn't have a roof on it. Maybe explains the sad condition with only 18k, and less than two normal years use, on the odom." As I said in my above post the car was sitting outside in the guy's driveway for years. My buddy Jim was slowly watching it go away and the owner refused to sell it. So that would mean the car was probably sitting outside until 1987, when the current owner bought it. You can figure out the math. Duane
My basic complaint is now it’s not original, but it’s not restored, so why did he bother messing with it? 2 years ago it was the coolest original GSX ever, now who knows what it is.
It's a shame that these GSX's weren't taken care of. I bought a pair of 15x7 rallys off a State Fair swap meet guy that lived in Detroit. He had a white 4 spd X in his backyard (weeds, tall grass etc) with 6 or 7 other pos cars. My 2 front rallys came off that X. He needed cash so he was selling parts off it. I'm sure the city was after him for the stored cars behind his house outside.... I wish I still had his # or address to see if he still has that X.
It's still a 1970 Stage 1 four speed GSX. Personally I think it's cooler now. He fixed what had to be fixed and saved what ever he replaced. All stickers, decals, and most of the paint are original. How much more documentation can be had. I love the fact the car still looks original, where someone else may have completely restored it. Honestly, I'd rather drive the car this way. I'm more impressed with what was done then what could have been done. I guess that's what 50 years experience can do for a select few then most.
I think we are talking about two different cars. Isn't the car shown in the video in Marc's posting the car that is now owned by Gord Martin and is currently being restored by Todd? Cheers
The GSX that todd is restoring was in a lot better condition it's a totally different GSX. The video of the barn find GSX clearly shows how many issues it had before he cleaned it up. There's a lot more new paint than old paint now.
