Folks, Any thoughts on this car? https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0121-442856/1970-buick-gs/ It ticks most of my boxes (other than it is being sold through an auction but I may need to get over this to get a nice car). Passenger mirror is not factory, has 15" wheels (may or may not be factory but I'd put those on myself anyway, caps (ribbed) look correct at least) and the arm rests really bother me (crooked... not sure what is going on there). Otherwise I quite like the car and none of the issues mentioned are a deal breaker (other than the auction potentially - ). Thoughts and if you know the car I'd appreciate your input.
Looks like a really nice GS. Color looks like Azure Blue which was an optional Riviera only color. If the trim tag shows code 20 it would be one of only 16 GS455 coupes painted Azure Blue in 1970. The other caution on an auction car, if you won't be at the auction, is to know if everything is working on the car. I'll be at the Kissimmee auction in January so will be interested to see how this car does. As for the wheels, the 15 inch rallye wheels were an option in '70. If you're wondering if they are the original WG coded wheels, they look like they may be but, hard to tell if the "quarter will fit in the offsete test" will pass?
There was a car just like this one for sale at the GS nats back in 2001 or so I believe. It was an all original “survivor”. Not sure if this is the same car but it’s the same colors and equipment. Still had the original WG wheels etc...
I have two computers & four monitors here at work. The color looks different on each of the four monitors. Makes it hard to tell for sure but I vote Gulfstream.
Here’s the car on the website of the current owner. https://www.duncanimports.com/vehicles/51/1970-buick-gran-sport-455
The arm rest base on my original ‘70 GS455 is crooked exactly the same way. Just on the driver side, the passenger side is straight as it should be. Has driven me crazy the entire 38 years I’ve owned the car. I’ve checked the positioning of mounting holes, just an assembly line screw up that was left that way from the factory.
