Looking to run 17 x 8 rims on the back of my 66 skylark, would the 17 x 8 fit in the front? I want to buy the right height tires to keep the stock circumference, so the speedo stays accurate. What would I run for backspace so I won’t have to roll the lip of the rear quarters. Looking to put a wide as possible tire in the back with clearance to the rear quarter. Thanks for any Advice Steve
5-1/2" backspace on a 8" wide wheel should center the tire in the rear wheelwell. There is a tool called the 'wheel rite' that comes in handy to check wheel/tire fitment. Here's an article: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hppp-0911-percys-high-performance-wheelrite/ You could make something similar fairly easy..... take a look on youtube.
I know you don’t want to roll the rear lips but with a light massage I was able to get an 18x9 using a 5.25bs and a 275/40-18 under my 66. Squared it up nice using an 18x8 up front with a 255 tire. Going to drop the front back one size though for some extra room.
Wow Nice Ride Buddy! That is what I was thinking 17x8 in the rear. What are you running in the front? Steve
Front 215-55-17; rear 235-60-17 Coopers. Wheels have 4.25" BS front, 4.5" BS rear. Wheels are 17 x 7 front; 17 x 8 rear. More backspacing might be better. The 235/60-17’s have some meat on them.
