Hello again Everyone, I was wondering how the fit and finish are on the fiberglass fenders. I know VFN sells them, I don't know if anyone else is selling them. Any help is much appreciated.
Hi I think it’s only VFN selling them. I have a set and they fit ok however the surface is slightly wavy not smooth like a steel panel. I had my car professionally painted and at the right angle you can see the wavy surface. But only if you look at a certain angle and light. My car is dirty at the moment but I can try to take some pics to show this
I have a set of vfn. The fitment was ok. I bought them used. I hate i can't sit on my fenders anymore. They don't save as much as I thought they would
The weight savings isn't much and the fit and finish isn't perfect either from what I've seen over the years. It's hard to do a removable front clip on a race car with steel fenders though.
I don't know why but I thought of an old picture. Dude in jeans and no shirt with long hair sitting on the fender of a GS. Don't see many fender sitters anymore. Lol
Lol, I have a small bag chair in my trunk now. The way my feet and ankles are any more I can't just stand in the lanes for 30 plus minutes. If I was walking or moving I'd be fine, but to just stand hurts. I remember getting stuck in the lanes at Norwalk at the world nationals for over 2 hrs, it was nice to just plop my fat ass up there
This is how mine fit, the drivers side is slightly better than the passenger......and I'm sure a good body guy could get it better
Hi. New to the site here. My fenders are from VFN but US Body source sells them too, thats where I got my hood from, VFN. In my opinion VFN fenders are pretty good for being fiberglass as far as build quality and fitment with little work needed. You can even use your stock hinges if you want to, just need nutserts or nut/bolt them on but I would suggest weaker springs and a hood prop or adding sheet metal behind the mounts to help prevent flexing and cracking. I ended up just doing your usual fiberglass cleanup and drilling mounting holes, trimming for the headlight trim to fit better (but i made my own rad support and headlight mounts so knew that going in ) and fiberglassing a rear edge in after lining it up just so it looked nicer when you open the door or look at the fender to door gap. But if I was trying to make it a show car I would have spent a day or so blocking them out and some bodywork to get more of the wavyness out of them than I did. I have some descent pictures of when I did it if you want more and I figure out how to get them to you.
Thank you KennyD. I decided not to buy the fiberglass fenders after all. I recently had a stroke and I was going to have a friend help me mount the fenders but I'm in no condition to do any body work on them. If I could have mount them and just paint them I would have got them. Thanks anyway for the pictures. I really appreciate everybody's help on this forum.
