Have had a set of 3.90 gears in my shop for about 5 years now. Just got rid of the 2.73s tonight. Didn't get to drive much but boy seems to have woke this one up. Didn't want to get a ticket first night out. Will get it out of town tomorrow and really see.
I run 3.90's in my Maggot on the highway..I don't mind it at all 70 mph at about 3200 with 3 inch exhaust and race bullet mufflers. The interior noise is very tolerable..It's worth it to me..And,I have no Overdrive either.I don't have a 455 Stage 1 motor with a healthy cam and built up to get 26 mpg..That's what my TDI Beetle is for..Enjoy it..
I guarantee you woke it up! Huge difference and you are so right, when anybody mentions gas mileage with a BBB I have to resist smacking them……..
Went out to B-fast last Sunday morning driving the Wildcat. Part way trough the meal the waitress kid comes over and points out the window and says is that your car "thing"? Yes. Its a 66 Buick.. then she ask if it gets good millage. We both laugh and said NO! Girl looks confused and said ,Then why do you drive it?
Ahhh way ahead of you I put a 2004r in several years ago in anticipation of this. Ya I need to get this car out of town. Really is fun in town now but have only been able to sneak in about a 55 mph pull so far. Wow really jumps when hits 2nd now. Need a cam so I can rev this 350 enough to let trans shift right. Wants to go little higher than I want a stock internal motor to go. With old gears I couldn't let it rev out to shift I had to let of a little. Seems to rev fast enough now to be a little better. Set my rev limiter higher and now doesn't hit it at shift point all the time. Pretty sure I can smoke my wife's 6.2 Denali now. Wouldn't have tried last week.
Oh boy yes this thing is a complete new machine That's what I needed to make the rest of my combo work finally No longer am I under the stall rpm all the time driving around town
