'68 430. GM 1381487 I know some of the aftermarket grommets are not very good fits. Is the Parts Place the only good option?? Something else?? My old one is a little rough but part of me wonders if I should put it back?
Initially I went to Napa to get a replacement PCV and grommet; the grommet didn't fit the manifold. I took my old grommet and PCV back to Napa and the counter guy helped me find a good combo of new PC and grommet to fit the intake hole (trial and error method). There may be a better source out there but that was my experience on my 71 350.
Your not a real Buick guy until you push a pcv grommet into the intake! The grommet is available at any auto parts store. Dorman makes it. And yes, the fit is impossibly tight. I installed the grommet into a spare intake and used a small dremmel drum sander to sand the inner diameter until the valve fit easily.
The Dorman ones are tight but can be made to work. I was about to use a NOS GM one I have but changed my mind when I saw what they go for on EBAY.....put it back on shelf to age some more....
As always, excellent suggestions! I also found https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...mmet-replacement-for-bbb.234306/#post-1906658. I'll report back on my final choice and experience. I also appreciate the suggestion in a few other threads to gently RTV it in. That also seems wise. PS @buick64203 I feel PLENTY indoctrinated with broken water pump bolts, broken exhaust manifold bolts, leaking gooseneck, rotted inner fender (under the battery), and numerous other challenges. I think I'll be "OK" if I miss this thrill of fishing a grommet out of the valley pan... .
That's a Dorman grommet. I ream them out with a drill bit so the valve slides in with less force but still plenty tight.
The only ones to get are the ones from Kirban and Highway Stars. The 455 takes the same one as the V6 GN.

Reporting back -- Thanks to a post from Jim Humphrey in 2011, I went with the grommet that fits Fords, - under $4 on Amazon or at darn near any parts store. As Jim mentioned, it's Dorman number 42049 that's for Ford/Mercury 75 - 94. It's a bit larger diameter at the top than our stock grommets but that should help reduce its "disappearance" into the valley pan. The inside diameter is much larger so the PVC valve actually fits! Given the difficulty of getting something that's useful, for a reasonable price, and that's actually available... I don't think you can beat it! I'll drop in a pic once I have the intake painted and the grommet installed again. As always, I appreciate all the good dialogue.
42049 is so big that the body of the valve goes in. Not sure if that's the way to go....might have the valve drop in valley.
I used the Dorman 42061 when I installed the Edelbrock intake, with a new PCV valve. Just put a (very) little soapy water on the valve and it wasn't too bad to push into it.
Looks like highway stars is available: https://www.highwaystars.net/grommet-pcv-valve-1254119/ And on ebay as mentioned: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2947984169...k%2BC7p8dQ%3D%3D|clp:2334524|tkp:BFBMhuaUvN5f
