Just installed new wood grain decal and put back wiper and top switches. It’s great to restore stuff and put it away then it’s ready to install. That’s the best way I’ve found to restore these cars then you are not overwhelmed with mini sub assemblies all at once.
Dave, dash looks very nice. Be aware the word is there can be problems with the repro gauge bezel and wood.
Olds uses tiny nuts to hold the emblem on. They can be a nightmare to put back on through small access holes. Drop one and it’s go fishing with a magnet time. I did it twice. If you are wondering 72 used either Cutlass if hardtop or Cutlass supreme if convertible on glove box door. 71 was last year for 442 on door. Of course this can lead to “it’s a fake” at local shows. Pretty amusing.
Olds was green crazy on their body mounts. There was light green, dark green and dark green stripe which were more like Green blobs. What they called dark green was actually a turquoise. Others restoring these cars have found the same thing. The core support used square mounts that are just listed as green. I used a darker shade of green. Originals were pitched by body shop doing paint years ago so we had nothing to go on for those.
Engine has been at the shop for a long time. Machinist has had a tough time finding pistons and cam. Still lots of Covid shortages even with his connections. He finally got them. Body guy is now rolling as well. Had to replace rear inner wheel wells. Trunk floor was in great shape. Frame is fully assembled now. It’s just waiting for the engine so we can install it. Looking good...but tic toc Dave, GMO has their BOP show at Hebert's in May. I think I'm gonna' miss it because I'll be leaving BG.
Man that frame was clean of pitting to start with! Looks very nice when done. No pitting even where a no winter car has some in common areas. Looks like my Western 1'676 original mile Stg2 car! Is the frame painted, or powder coated?
It’s been a while since I checked in here. Yes frame was pretty good to start. Some pits were filled but overall not much. Frame was painted and not powder coated. We have not made any progress in quite some time. Nothing really for us to do. Engine has been at machine shop for over a year. That is what had been holding us up. Shop is a one man show now as everyone quit on owner. Was a long parts delay as well. Shop Had a heck of a time finding pistons and a cam. The body guy is ready for the finished frame so he can get it all lined up. It’s killing us just sitting there. We would have had car done a long time ago. Machine shop will dyno engine when done then drivetrain will get dropped in frame. Hope it’s soon.
