Saw these on a '70 Chevelle Facebook page for $5K, if anyone is interested. Date coded 240 69 for you early build guys. An NOS LS6 distributor was listed yesterday for $7K.
You could only use these on a Buick for just over the first half of the production year. After that they went to the Pliacells. You would also have to check the part number to see if they were ever used on the Buicks. Duane
I think I'd rather stick with a new pair painted gray with your decals, if we're being honest. Call me crazy...
Me too, especially if your car is a late produced 70. A set of Monroe gas shocks, painted gray, with stickers and the correct rear lower bolt assembly, good to go. Yes some people are nuts, many call me crazy but come on…………. Of course in the upholstery business we always used to say, “There is an a$$ for every seat.” Duane
Seen these for sale before and probably will again. It's gotten insane. If you factored in a guy to do a car all NOS at these prices , you are probably talking a million plus build .
Exactly!! Not to mention some of the parts wouldn't be 100% correct. I'll take good used OEM parts that may or may not need refurbishing any day.
I'm into my correct looking gray shocks for $125 all in with the correct rear lower bolts. And from the rear of the car looking underneath, they look just like those $5k nos ones
WOW , I think my GSX still has the original shocks on the front in good working order . I didn't much more then $5000 for the whole car 37 years ago . Bill
I always said if you buried a Timex watch in the sand and dug it up 1000 years later it would be priceless. I hope they don’t judge our time period 1000 years from now by digging up a Pinto. Duane
The switch to Pliacells was for the Buick GS F41 equipped a-bodies only, No GM brand a-body had them except Buick. The only other car that came with them was the Corvette. This was cutting edge technology at the time, and was the secret behind the shocks functioning correctly under heavy acceleration, as the oil inside would not aeriate and make the shocks almost useless. This “secret” did not come out into the open until the 73 model year, when they advertised the qualities of this “new” shock and put them on basically everything. Duane
Just in case someone wanted to know. The regular spirals are an oil filled shock. Under heavy acceleration the shock piston bounces around so much that the oil gets aeriated and the shock looses it’s ability to deaden vibrations. The Pliacells were an entirely different animal. They were also an oil filled shock, but the oil was encased in a thick plastic bag. Under heavy acceleration the oil stayed in the bag and the shock was able to do it’s job like always. So now you know the rest of the story….and why they were important for ride and control. Duane
