I was unsuccessful in my attempt to swap my ‘70 hood for a ‘71-‘72 with the pop up spring so I’ll try this a different way. Does anyone have a junk Skylark or GS hood that they’d be willing to cut out the pop up spring section of the underside? It’s a small section so shipping would be a breeze. And Ethan, thank you for checking your stash of hoods.
Call ya here in a minute Donny,I have an original paint one, stored properly (not on the points) with no dents, scrapes or rust through of course.
Usually it's the '70 hoods everyone is looking for and the '71-2 that are available. I wouldn't give up hope yet. If my '71 hood wasn't original to my GS I'd do the trade as you're '70 hood is probably nicer than the one I have stashed away for my '70 but my '71 will have so little of its original sheetmetal as it is I hate to.
Where are you located? Yes,I nice 1970 hood is more of a unicorn. I mean a truly nice one. I searched for almost 5 years for one. This past winter,I found 2 of them about a week apart and bought both. Zero rust, zero damage. Scott Winn just picked up a truck load of GS parts and he got a 71-72 GS hood with it. Located in Indianapolis.
This ‘70 hood is the nicest non-NOS I’ve ever seen, so yes, I’m reluctant to give it up but my car is a ‘72. Still in original, but faded, stratomist blue paint. I know it’s harder to find than the later hoods that’s why I was surprised I had so few responses. I’m in Florida so the logistics may be the issue.
That’s a last resort if I can’t arrange a swap and if I can find an equally clean ‘71-‘72 hood to buy. If it comes to that, Duane’s first in line.
Hey Mike, If you hear of anyone from your neck of the woods heading to anywhere in Florida for a vacation…. You would not be disappointed in this hood. I’m hoping it doesn’t come down to modifying this one.
I’ve got one in Middle Tennessee. Super solid and straight but what I’ve read is it maybe a replacement. It has the 2 holes in the very front for the round Buick emblem
