Who has it. Is it possible at all? planning on 295/50 or even 325/50 tires in the back? minor fenderworks are Ok for me! or do i have to go way deeper (minitub etc?) as i read on here a 8 inch wheel fits definitly?!
275/40-20 on 10 inch wheels fits with no issues whatsoever. That is all I can say. Try posting in "The Hides" section, you will probably get more replies there.
If it fits at all, and IMO, it will be difficult at best, the key will be back spacing. The 70-72 cars will need 5 1/2- 5 5/8" of back spacing on a 10" wheel to center the wheel in the wheel well. When you get up near the limit of what is feasible, the side to side variations of your car can come into play. It is not uncommon to have more room on one side than the other because the body is not exactly centered on the frame. The 68-69 cars need 5" minimum back space on an 8" wheel. I would expect that to fit a 10" wheel, you will need 6" or so. Some measurements with a wheel of known back space should tell you what you need to know.
Exactly just take the wheel you have or another one doesn't matter long as it goes in the wheel well somewhat center and with the jack stands under the lower control bushings or rearend if you dont have a sway bar. Just measure and see what needs to move where, in my experience you not getting a 15x10 in a 68/69 without some work. Hell a 255/60on a 7in rim is a nnightmare to get wrestled out of the wheel well. A 325 would probably require undoing the shock to.get the rear to drop low enough
15x8 with 5.5 back spacing and 275/60r15 is a tight fit without cutting the wheel lip and the lower shock spacer had to be cut down in my case. Very tight.
thanks for the replies.. has anybody a 17inch ? i found this article and i m not sure it incl. 69, 69 Buicks ...lol 1968-1972 GM A-bodies 15-inch: 15x8 with 4-1/2-inch back-spacing front and rear. Use 255/60 tires. 16-inch: 16x8 with 4-1/2-inch back-spacing front and rear. Use 255/50 tires. 17-inch: 17x91/2-inch with 5-1/2-inch backspacing front, 17x11 with 5-1/2-inch backspacing rear. Use 275/40 front tires and 315/35 rear. This is tight in the rear. 18-inch: Same as 17-inch. The rim size doesn't change the back spacing requirements, just the rim width. You must measure YOUR car though. I can tell you this, the back spacing requirements for the 70-72 Buick Skylark/GS are different than the 68-69 Skylark/GS, as well as other GM A bodies, so when they generalize about 68-72 GM A bodies, they're wrong already.
I'm running 275/45 R18 on a 9.5 rim with (pretty sure) 6" BS (that's a 10.826 wide tire) Did not have to modify the wheel well opening and I have .5 clearance on one side and .375 on the other. I need to roll the car forward to clean the top of the tires, not to bad but a pain sometimes. I would like to put 295 or 315 series tires but just don't have the room at this time. I'm pretty sure I have about another inch to go before I hit the inner wheelhouse at the top so maybe a 10" rim with 6.5 BS might work, you will have to measure YOUR car to confirm this and or any BS requirements. That looks realy good 9.5 seems to be the way to go with the right BS BTW stunning color.. i am aiming for a "gunmetal-ish" paint as well did you lowered your car ? how much in the F ? how much lowered in the rear? as a wheel example i am interested in see here
