Starts, runs, shifts and stops but not roadworthy yet. Needs carb rebuild, brake work, tires, etc. I bought this as part of a package deal from the man who had it in storage, and can't say much about the car except that it was in Butte at least back into the 1970's. Believed to be 108K miles. This is the same body shell as the 1959 Chevy Impala hardtop, but a much better car: big-block 389 vs small block 283, 4 speed automatic vs 2-speed auto. With a 59 Pontiac you have the same size, same weight, same great late-50's style, but with a lot more usable car. First year of the iconic Pontiac split grill, rocket fins, and one of the best dash layouts ever. These are great looking cars. The motor sounds great and has tons of power/torque, but the carb is gummed up inside and it's currently running rich. Still, no blue smoke out the tailpipe, so it looks like the motor is solid and won't need rebuilding, just tuning. Sounds good, and I have videos of a startup and short drive. Lights, horn, gauges, and wipers work. Tires are old and not safe. Transmission shifts through the gears forward and reverse without any noises. I put a new sending unit in the gas tank only to find that the line is plugged, so it's currently running off an auxiliary tank under the hood. Charging system works well. Fuel pump leaks. Paint is shot and a previous owner touched it up with a rattle can on the white areas, but not the red. No signs of any accidents. Complete car, isolated spots of rust, dings and dents, but complete and running. Right year, right colors, right body, right drivetrain. This would make a great restoration project, or do a few more things and drive as-is. You simply do not find running-and-driving 1959 coupes anymore at this price, let alone red and white ones. Comes with an extra front fender and a few trim pieces. Open to reasonable cash offers in person. This is the last time I will offer the car locally at a reduced price before advertising it nationally. Clean Montana title. Calls only, no emails or texts. If you miss me leave a message because I get a lot of spam.
I would bet some of those missing chrome trim pieces would be "fun" to track down. Its an interesting and rare car for sure. Fun project for someone that wants to learn the sheet metal repair trade.
That is a great deal, always loved the Pontiac interiors, this one's a little plain as compared to some of the 3 colour ones I've seen on the 59 model. The neat thing about this car for me is that it is a real Pontiac, unlike the Canadian equivalent which was actually Pontiac sheet metal reduced onto a Chevy frame. Most Canuck Ponchos also seemed to have come with that horrible anemic 6 banger that was only good at holding boats stationary, so to see a real 389 is a treat.
I'll take that title .... it's been for sale for a few weeks. I haven't shared it because I didn't want to go look at it for anybody for fear I'd buy it myself if they didn't want it. I've got another car to do now, so I feel comfortable going and looking for someone else
Bubble tops remind me of the grey hound vista cruiser; mega light coming in and tons of visibility . That was a major change from the 58 roof lines and glass.
I need a used new to me crew cab to tow. But I hope these deals are available soon after. That would be a fun cruiser.
agreed, me too. shipping would not be an issue if I had a better idea of what the underside looked like and he had a title in his name. I am in Pa and open titles without a notarized BOS in the same persons name are impossible to get transferred. have dealt with it twice already.
Sounds good. If you need me to go look, just let me know. It's about 3 hours away, but if the roads are clear I'm always down for a road trip to look at something cool....and there's 3 "gentlemen's clubs" spaced out nicely along the way
