The lower ball joints on my car are very loose feeling. The uppers are nice and tight. I am in the process of installing new springs and dropped spindles, so i may as well replace them. Do the lower ball joints screw in and out of the control arm? I know I would need to rent a proper socket. Any cautions to this?

Lucky they are lowers. They are easy to replace and yes screw in. You will need a 2 1/8" socket. I managed to pick one up on eBay for $25. (see pics in next post). Now upper ball joints. I replaced those as well when I put extended UCA's on mine. Holy smokes, easily the most painfully difficult job I've had on my Buick. I mean nightmare with a capital NIGHTMARE!!!!!! I could not get the old ones out. they were like cold fuse welded in...took me days and a lot of heat and hammering to get em out
