My original intention was to list this car on BaT, but they are apparently backed up for weeks or something. So, I am going to offer it here, and probably FB (lord help me) and see where that gets me. OK, here we have my 62 Electra that I bought over the Winter time. My intent was to spruce it up and drive it for the Summer, and then likely sell. Well, my ability to maintain composure when it comes to temptation caused me to buy another project 57...so this one has to go. I will attempt to summarize all of the major categories in detail, to keep you from being as surprised as I was when I received the car in January. After all of the things I've tried to sort out on this car, I am completely upside down on it, and I'd like to get MOST of my money back if possible. Price: $10,000 OBO (that means don't be afraid to shoot me an offer for what you think is fair. You can't offend or insult me.) Title: CLEAN in my name General thoughts: this will make someone a great cruiser. It's a good 10-15 footer, and that's probably all it's ever going to be. Once you see the overview of the car, you will understand why it would be a bad idea to try to start digging. This was the same conundrum I had on my 60 Electra 225 convertible. It was perfect for keeping the car as-is and driving the heck out of it. Body: Bottom line - it's rusty. Likely a lifetime OH car that was repainted in the 80's. When it was painted, I think they just did some booger welding of a few really bad areas and just used filler for the rest. I have a video that I will post that does a walk-around and shows the general scope of issues on the outer body. There are no gaping holes on the outer sheet metal, just a bunch of bubbling. There is some water spotting on the flat surfaces of the hood and trunk. With some good compound and a trained operator, it would probably come out. I elected not to touch it, because it really doesn't impact the look of the car. Underside: The frame itself is in good condition with not nasty scaly rust. It really looks pretty normal for an old car that's never been detailed underneath. The only glaring issue is the inner rocker rust. I will provide photos of those areas. There are two holes in the front floor board right at the front edge on both sides. There is also some rot in the trunk right where the body mount is behind each wheel well....the typical spot all these big Buicks rust first. BRAND new exhaust system from manifolds back with stock type mufflers under front seats and resonators in the back behind the wheel houses. Typical Dynaflow leaks.. Wheels/Tires: Brand new Coker Classic radials 235/75/15 with driver quality factory super deluxe hubcaps Engine/Trans: The engine seems to run fine. It sat for a month and a half while I tried to figure out the driveshaft issue, and I got in it yesterday to test drive, and it started right up after about 10 seconds of cranking. Some lifter tick upon initial startup, but it quickly quiets down. I put new plugs and wires in it when I bought it. Radiator holds water and the color of the coolant looks good. Transmission seems to be healthy and gets the car moving without any weird slippage or anything. It's nice and crisp like a 62 Dynaflow should be...and leaks like one, too. Air conditioning system is all there and intact, but I don't think the compressor engages when switched on. I never looked into it since I don't ever run the AC in my old cars. It has a new 2- piece custom driveshaft due to the old CV joint taking a dump and destroying one end of the old driveshaft. Glass: All the glass looks pretty good for being original. There is some slight hazing in the front windshield where the wipers have rubbed for 60 years. All 4 of the power windows go up and down well. Power vent window motors run, but they don't turn the windows. They will move by hand, though. Interior: This is one of the reasons I bought the car...it looked like it was all there and not rotten. I was somewhat correct in my assumption. Although all of the fabric and vinyl was in good shape, it was dirty and faded. I removed the seats to clean everything and realized I was in for more than I bargained for. Both front and rear seat bottom foam had completely dried up and fallen to the floor. So you were basically sitting on springs covered with fabric. Both seat bottom covers were removed and I fit in some new foam, then reinstalled the covers. While the seats were out, I installed new carpet, because why not? I put in new mesh on the package tray, too. New headliner as well, because it was absolutely disgusting. I do want to clarify that I never found any evidence of ANY rodent activity. Anyway, the car came with an extra instrument cluster. I found out later that the "extra" one was actually the original one with 97k miles, but the back printed circuit was trashed. So I repaired the circuit and reinstalled the original cluster. It now has a working fuel gauge, speedometer, and idiot lights....unlike the one that was in the car when I bought it. There is an after market gauge cluster down by your left knee that can easily be removed if wanted. I elected to keep it there because I like to know the vitals of my engine. Chrome/Stainless: The bumpers are pretty much perfect. They must have been rechromed sometime in the recent past, because they look like a million bucks. All of the other bright work on the exterior is decent. As far as the ELECTRA 225 letters that are supposed to be on the back end of the quarter panels, I have searched high and low for a set. I'm still looking, and will continue to look. Fortunately, or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) the holes for the letters were just wiped over with filler and can be knocked out from the trunk side if you want to reinstall them. I just Sold my 1972 Buick Skylark 350 Sedan on eBay a few weeks ago and then last Thursday I bought this 1963 Oldsmobile F-85 Deluxe off of eBay, I won't have it until the 2nd week of April, but if I would have known about your car above I would have been all over it!
