Not throwing money at it, is yielding the same results.

Lol. Everyone was on my case and sure I was doing something wrong and not listening a week ago. But now we cross a different bridge.

Turn it by hand to check the feel.

Ok I have to chime in. Like everyone said, unless I missed it why haven't done a simple timing chain slack test. It is just so easy. If it skipped a tooth then all is for nothing.
I'm not trying to be a jerk but just curious.

You couldn't find the right socket for the bolt or a extention long enough to reach the bolt?

The bolt head should be a 1 1/8th. inch. Either a deep socket or a regular socket with a short extension. IF the lower crank pulley is off all you will need is a regular depth socket.

Cleaned it out and turned it. No slack. But there was hang ups. Compression crank test is holding at 90 PSI for all cylinders.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Did you find anything in the oil when drained out that sludge that you showed in the oil pump test?

No metal shaving. My uncle poored through a kitchen strainer and paper towel. I used a wet vac and foaming degreaser to that sludge out of the top end before it got down to the Cam and crank. That sludge was caked on and probably had been sitting their for years. Not much made it down to the crank and pan. We ran ATF though the engine, drained and then did Diesel fuel, and there is currently conventio oil in there now. That was Diesel fuel and old oil remnants in the video with the heads off.

The Crank didn't turn smoothly, as expected. I didn't feeling any slack in the timing chain. The #6 cylinder with the bad lifter had a low score on the compression test. Everything was 90 PSI or higher. I think the cranking specs are 125 PSI for the Nailhead.

Here is today's video from my march to nowhere.

How did you test the chain for slack?
I believe the best way is to turn the the motor back and forth very slow and look at the distrubutor rotor to see just how much you have to turn the motor one way and the other way for the rotor to move.

That's exactly what I did, it's in the video.

Why? Why is the crank not turning smoothly?

You can turn off the Alerts. I can make a video for you on how to do it.
