Sorry if someone posted this previously. I am not on the forum much anymore but thought this one was worth noting if not already discussed.

This is an original 1967 Buick Skylark GS 400 convertible (one of 2140 built) and this is an (original 3 speed Its one of only 9 built). It is a project. Someone started cutting out the floor pans. It has a 455 engine and the original 3 speed trans that is complete with flywheel. I have a set of bucket seats and a rear seat that comes with the car (that are black). There are extra parts in the last picture that can be purchased for an additional price. It is a very rare car that could be restored. It is originally red with a black top and red interior. Please see pictures and ask questions. Thank you for looking.

Rough but these 1 of cars are becoming exceedingly rare. This should check off a lot of boxes for fans of this year. I would guess that after 54 years there are no other 3 speed convertibles left. Does anyone on the forum have one or know of one? I do not fall into the camp that see this as adding value of course, just curiosity.

Not being very knowledgeable about these cars I am curious - is the 3 speed a robust unit capable of handling the output of the motor? Why would or why would not - the 3 speed be checked off when purchased? Was the 3 speed the so called base transmission for the model and year?

That year 3 speed is a Dearborn (Ford) Unit and maybe the most durable trans of the time.

Karen Miller still has a 67 factory 3 speed bought new. I recall it is a green car and a convertible. Someone please correct me if it is a hardtop. I have not seen it in a long time.

A9912F22-3F17-492C-85AA-5B5673805BDF.png I bought this one years ago from a junkyard. Non- air car, GS400 with 3 speed manual transmission. 100% original and complete but rusty, rusty, rusty. Sold it to another Buick guy who happens to have one of the other 67 GS400 Conv with 3 speed manual transmission. His is a running, driving car. So that’s two of them that I know of. Another basket case was on eBay a few years ago.

Maybe not 1 of 9 then. Still, rare. As we were in a time in the 80's and 90's when cars in this condition were parted out, I can't imagine many left.

I sent the seller a couple of questions. Why isn't there a GS hood on it? Was it originally a bucket seat car? The part I like - although I have only owned a couple of GS cars - is the catalog and aftermarket support for GS.

I told the seller in my email that I was not interested in the motor - it looked weathered.

Speaking from experience, I had a 1 of 79, 1968 3 Speed Convert that was in great shape, took a while to sell though, rare does not always equal desirable.

There were actually 90 1967 GS400s convertibles made with the 3-speed manual transmission but a typo decades ago got that ball rolling and it has never stopped. Thankfully some official 1967 Buick production data surfaced (documents are dated 8-23-67) and it confirms that 9 is not correct. Here is a correct production summary:

Well if it was a 71 Stage then.............1 of 9 would be correct.

Thanks for confirming. It is plausible that - say - 10 up to 25 remain. That's just an educated guess based on a formula I came up with years ago in statistics class.

The seller did get back to me, nice response with some additional photos. He is assisting a friend who has had the car stored there for years. He believes it was originally a bucket seat car. Hood is gone but he has a GS hood for it.

I have the VINs for 3 of them, plus 4 more have been mentioned in this thread so that's 7 right there. So I'd say it's closer to the 25 number.

Did he provide a photo of the trim tag from the firewall? If so can you post it? That will confirm the original transmission type.

The transmission pictured in the ad is not a toploader so it would not be the original 3 speed.

I agree. The original would be a FoMoCo toploader.

Ha! I saw this car on eBay in 2017 in NY and wondered where it went. Glad it's in the hands of a Buick enthusiast. Was it previously owned by George P.?

I am the guy that has it listed for another long time GS club member. He has owned the car since 2002. He purchased it from another club member that had it for a while. I was trying to decode it and what I can see it was originally Regal Black with black top and red interior. If anyone could help with decoding I would appreciate it. Not trying to miss represent at all so I will correct the listing. Price is negotiable to his wife has ALS so they could use the money. Need to find it a good home so it won't be scraped. Thank you

STAGE III Lost Experimental 455-4 Bolt Main Block.

I still have the 3 speed manual transmission Jim sold me : )

If I remember correctly it is the Muncie HD 3-speed to go behind the big block Buick, even have collected up a manual transmission consolette with the original (not reproduced) 3 speed shift pattern coin.

Gonna come in handy SOME DAY for one of these very rare cars : )
