    05C : May, 3rd week
    A-2 : Regal Black - Black top
    197-B : red interior - bucket seats
    2 - 2nd group
    L : 4-speed
    F : Console (short - manual transmission)

So you have a more desirable 4-speed car, not a 3-speed manual.

Here is a decoding sheet. I hope this information helps.

Got me! I was 1/2 asleep and therefore got it 1/2 right! Thanks for catching that.

by the way, think how cool that car was when new: black paint, red bucket seat interior with 4-speed and console.

Yes, 4 speed. “B” would be the code of a 3 speed.

Black car. Red interior. Four speed. Yeah can't get much better than that! Killer surprise. Awesome.

Thank you Steve for coming on here. My dad had ALS and passed away from its complications. I agree that a 4 speed is essentially better. My question would be - for everyone- is a 4 speed set up impossible to find at a decent price?

Does the car have the pedals and rods so at least those don't need sourced?

A person would need to locate a 400 and adapt it to be a 4 speed car. (Boy its been awhile since I turned wrenches)

If you zoom in on the pics, the pedals and at least sone of the linkage are visible.

    docgsx It's not a GTX

Unfortunately, the resto would cost way more than the car will ever be worth…

That guy looks like it was hauled out of Lenny Steinhouses' boneyard in the late 70's (Jeans Road in Burr Ridge Nick...) That drive shaft hasnt seen any petroleum products since 1970. Also, NO WAY is that a Ford gearbox. "Reporter; strike that last comment. Jury you are instructed to disregard that statement..."
