The 69 routes across the wheel well. That's a different clamp/bracket altogether. I prefer that route since routing across the intake would block the 400-4 decal and just adds extra engine heat to the heater hoses.
Are we sure on that ? The assembly Manual shows them on the Intake. Here's a photo from a 1969 Chassis Manual . . . .
There may, MAY have been a date cut off. However, I can say, that ALL of the 68 and 69's I have owned, it was mounted on the PS inner fender.
I've seen that style on Chevrolets but I'm no expert on the 1968/69 Buick's so I can't say . . . . I do know that Duane was consulted by the Gentleman that had these produced so I feel pretty confident in it's correct. Interesting though and thanks for chiming in. I'm all for learning something new with these cars!
That bracket that George pictures is the correct bracket for many of the 68-69's that I have seen, which mounts to the passenger inner fender, through a little cutout that those tines squeeze thru and snap in place. You can use the 70-72 method just as easily, it all depends on your routing preference and adherence to the car's originality.
I have a 68 Chassis Manual also. When I have time I look in there to see what it shows. The 1969 Chassis Manual shows the Intake Mounted Bracket (As shown in my photo) I wonder what the Judges look for !?!?!
The 69 400 used the same intake as the 70 455 too I think, so that intake mounted bracket on a 69 also makes perfect sense.
My bet is (and partially based on the Assembly Manual) is the 1969 Models probably used both. (With this one being a bit later in production???)
I wish we could determine when Buick switched to the other style. Not sure what the judges look for on 1969 Models but as mentioned a few posts ago the Chassis Manual shows the style I'm selling that bolts to the Intake Manifold. (which we know is correct for 1970) Interesting topic that never seems to get a definite answer. My guess is they switched sometime in 1969 especially since it's already shown in the 1969 Chassis Manual and carried into the 1970 Model year. .
I just checked my assembly manual. The revision date for the heater hoses and bracket mounted to the engine is March 26, 1969. Cars built after that date would have the revised bracket. This revision added this page.
