Love the red interiors. Low options
Wonder what makes this a S1 to the seller? The decal. Lol

Neat car. Someone just asked the codes for this combo - Must've been looking at this car. We were also just discussing (both on here & was talking to a member via text) about the oddity of buckets/col. shift.

Unfortunately, I think for that $ it needs to be but sure doesn't have any telltale signs.

Dano- not that odd- I have seen quite a few column shift bucket seat cars...

I also noticed the 400 hood emblems.

I had that nob on 1 of mine and never knew what it was for. Thought it was to help retract the belt incas it got stuck

Seen a few but not too common. I have a Skylark here that came that way but had a storage console.

Brian I’m looking at it Friday morning. I have some concerns of the stage 1 part too. What should I be looking for fellas other than Flint made, RS block,BB trans, distributor/carb #s to verify it is indeed a stage 1 car? I live 15 minutes from the guy and not once have I ever seen this car. I keep pretty good track of all the 8/9 cars. thanks

Will know Friday. If it’s the real deal. Any help would be appreciated? George? Brian? Alan? Chris? Thoughts on anything outside of numbers. I’m not looking to add another GS400 to the stable. I was hoping to get to it today but it didn’t work in the guy’s schedule. The guy selling seems to come off as honest as he can be about the car. I talked to him for close to an hour. He said go through it with a fine tooth comb.

My 71 GS455 had buckets and column shift. A lot of people told me they weren't original, since it didn't have a console. I had the build sheet.

For starters it should have chrome valve covers and hardware. It should also have “stage 1” emblems on the hood instead of “400” emblems.

X2. There is so little there to indicate the car is a S1, that I would look at the car as a GS400 unless the owner has original paperwork proving S1. Born with RS/BB seems almost out of the question with this one. It does look like a good original GS400 convertible though and may well be #'s RR. Good luck.

    Morning,

Must be Flint built, must have documentation and/or a numbers RS block, and/or numbers BB trans. That is it... Even if it has a 246 carb, 962 distributor, OO/ON rear, doesn't matter....

There's a few other small things that could point to a strong possibility... However, there has to be either documentation or numbers block and/or trans...

    Thanks fellas!
I’ll let you know tomorrow what I find. From our conversation it is a flint made GS400. As you all you stated I did notice the cleaner lid, valve covers, and 400 emblems. As of right now there is nothing he has given me that proves it to be a stage 1. But it’s worth the look.

Not a stage car. Nice guy! Honest mistake.

this is what some of you guys are leaving the younger generation that are not car guys or wrenched with their fathers. Back in the 80s and 90s with swapping stuff out. I can see the confusion.

EXACTLY WHY IM AGAINST RE BODIES

Or all this part swapping. Sorry for the rant but the I spent an entire day looking this thing over trying to make out what I’m looking at and some board members still think it’s alright with swapping big money parts into low dollar cars or reboding

So... It's a rebody? You're description is vague... LOL
