Was the GS available with the racing stripe like in 1968? There's one in Hemmings Muscle Machines and they claim it's correct. Never heard of this before.

Do you mean the stripes way down low on the sides? Or a single mid-level stripe front to back on both sides?

He means the stripe on the rocker panel like on Ted Nagel's 68.

I believe on the Hemmings car, either Mark Lob or David Roth added that. I think it was Mark. I do not believe it is correct for a 69.

The wide rocker stripe is a 68 GS optional stripe only.

1969 GS cars had an optional D90 sport stripe that was a double pinstripe following body line down side of car around end caps of rear quarter.

I believe they claim it is correct for 1969, which is not what my impression was.

"And if you're wondering about the stripes just above the rockert panels, those are documented too ... they were a no-charge factory option and appear on the Buick's build sheet and window sticker."

I bet it is a Mike T. reproduction window sticker and the then current owner asked Mike to include it.

I would be very interested in seeing the build sheet with it included.

Nice looking car-it was at BPG one year?
69 owner wish it was correct :) It is one of the reasons I purchased my 68 from HemiKiller (Chris M)-
That stripe and the granny wheel covers!

Yes it was at the GSX reunion, do you recall Geo and company terrorizing C-Bus in it ?:Dou:

    Don,

Your right, I like those stripes that graced the 68 models, and have added them to a number of 69 cars. IMHO the 69 is just too darn plain looking, and the design engineers made a big mistake when they left off the stripes. :Dou:

The stripes were Mark approved , not Buick approved.

There are numerous items on that car that are not correct. the ad was written by a dealer just trying to sell a car for huge money and big profits. They don't care as long as the check can clear

Yep, and here it is in a 69 Options list. The revised date of this document is 3/19/69? So looking at this, it's also a 69 option?

It says "G.S. paint stripe". Wonder if that may be referencing the single stripe higher up on the side of the body, rather than the multiple stripes on a 68.

I recall an original owner of a nice 1969 GS400 telling me in the early 90's that the normal "pinstripes" we often see on a '69 were standard in the beginning of the year but an option later on (I'm pretty sure it was February) and he wasn't happy his came without the pinstripes. Perhaps the W8 stripe is the same? A half year type thing...

Since there was a rallye stripe option in '69 that is what I would have put on the window sticker if I made that particular one. But as everyone has said the rocker panel stripe was a '68 option only. I believe there were two different styles of the '69 stripe that changed over the model year.

I can see how someone could assume the rocker panel stripe was correct since the '69 option called it a rallye stripe.

I would guess that they used the same code (W8) with different outcomes. 68 was the lower stripe, 69 was the Pin Stripe?

My all original 69 GS was built early Feb. There are no pin stripes. If I remember correctly it was an option and I didn't want it. Wanted to spend the money on "go Fast" stuff.

1968---option code W8----"GS Rallye Stripe"----it was actually a decal (white, red or black. depending on the color of the car)
1969---option code W8----"GS Paint Stripe"-----it was a paint (pin) stripe that I believe there were two different versions, depending on the build date.

Both years it was always an option, not standard, and it was "no charge". Imagine that, a free option:shock:
