    Hello all,

1969 Buick Skylark 350-4bbl. Has a edelbrock carb 750 cfm. Here is the problem. 1) everytime i go to start the car for the first time of the day, it doesnt seem like there is any gas waiting in the fuel line at all because you can pump and pump the pedal all day and not see gas get put into the carb. then eventually after a few tries, the car starts fine. the second problem is that the car is trying to die out after about 10-20 seconds with the car in GEAR. the car idles fine in park and neutral all day long. What could be the cause of all this. Is my fuel pump Gabage? is my fuel filter not allowing enough gas by because it could be super dirty? is there a hole in the fuel line causing there to be a pressure leak somewhere? Any advice or knowledge on this would be great.

I just dealt with the stall problem putting in gear . It ended up being my vacuum modulator on the side of the tranny. I have a th400. I was told that if the modulator was bad, your car would smoke like crazy...but that is not always the case. Mine was plugged and didn't allow the needed vacuum. Changed it (took 5 mins) and now it will idle and accelerate great....

You need to diagnose the problem. Before you start the car cold, remove the air cleaner and open the throttle quickly. You should see 2 streams of gasoline coming from the accelerator pump nozzles. If not, the carburetor is empty. That is common on a Q-jet, but not the Edelbrock carburetor. Fuel may be leaking from the bowls. Disconnect the fuel line, and put it into a bucket. Crank the engine (disable the ignition) and see if the pump is putting out a steady stream of fuel.

Take the positive power wire off the HEI coil, or if you have points ignition, pull the coil plug wire
