Years ago I bought an unlighted one from you. Just finally decided to install it and discovered that I need a lighted one (map light) for my 70 GS Stage1. I can return, and/or send in my original to be refurbished. Any chance you still do this?

I think he's on FB. I disabled my account last year but there was a guy on there selling/re-doing them. Probably same guy.

I know you're just letting him know so no offense meant whatsoever here - Nothing against CARS per se and I have no idea how nice they are but I'd take a well restored original part over a repro any day.

This goes for almost any part. There are very few exceptions (Mitch's center caps being one). I wish this weren't the case. I'd rather pay more for a repro part and tank the price of NOS if they'd make the stuff correctly (thickness, appearance, fit).

I spent a fair amount of time on the cars site but couldn't find the mirror. Perhaps my bad, but a link would be helpful.

Heard the curvature of the glass on the repop mirrors isn’t correct and effects the dimming functionality of the mirror? I had a source on re-slivering original mirror glass but he retired. Must be a dying art It was cheap to do. Something like $8-10 per glass $10-15 to buff the housing and you had a pretty nice mirror

What Mark said...the repro mirror glass is flat. The original mirror glass was fatter at one end, the glass was like triangle shaped. It gave more depth when dimmed, it worked better. The funny thing is, today most people don't even understand how to use manual dimming mirrors.

Is that a fact?...what do new cars have auto dimming or something,
All my cars are old and I'm happy to manually dim my rearwiew

Yes, people understand the mirror moves for day/night, but they don't understand which is which. In the day you should not see the tab on the mirror, just the mirror. At night, you flip the tab and the mirror reflects rear light up towards the ceiling. All day long here, you can see cars with the tab down in the daytime. Then at night they push the tab forward so the light reflects down. It does work still, but not as well. All my newer cars dim automatically, but there are many cars here that are still manual.

Ok thanks, actually took me a while to work mine out as the tab operates different to any old Aussie car I've owned or driven.
Got the hang of it now but, as well as driving LHD on our side of the road.
