Thanks for the link and comments. So is the consensus to buy the repro? The silvering on my original one is in bad shape but otherwise it is still nice. I see that the repro has a long wire on it. I expected the map light wire to unplug from the mirror. Not to have to pull the headliner apart. What's up with that?

Been a while since I took out a map light mirror but I remember the wire being in the pinch weld under the wind lace and tucked under the a pillar cover. Didn’t have to mess with the head liner

The wire is long and does not detach on the originals. It depends how particular you are. Personally, I'd get the original re-done if possible. As I'd posted, whether or not the same guy, there is (was at least up until a couple years ago) someone on FB who re-does them. I need to back on there at some point & find him as I need to get a couple re-done. Regardless of which way you go, I'd be interested the non-lighted one you have.

There was someone called something like mirror-lady and she used to be on ebay also. She restored original mirrors.

The gray wire comes out of the mirror, just takes a little finesse

X2 the wire definitely comes out of the mirror. I bought a mirror many years ago from the "Mirror Lady" at Carlisle. She was always the 'vette go-to person. She's from that area, I think PA.

I may try again tomorrow. There is a tiny plastic coupler on the wire but my eyesight isn't good enough anymore to see if there is a release mechanism. It sucks getting old but the alternative is no better.

Map light plugs into the fuse block in the ACC slot. Cars with more than one used a pigtail splitter wire.

Just got my car back from the shop. Step on the gas and it feels like a loose chain just grabbed on the front bumper. Getting back to the mirror discussion, every time I hit a bump in the road the inside mirror fell down. Either way I can't see much out of it. I guess I am being picky. Just cut the map light wire. Go with the one I have without the map light. But I am having a hard time with that. Appreciate any further leads on a correct map light mirror 1970. Will trade or sell restored non light mirror.
