I assume the reason for the thrashing about the numbers on the block is that it appears to be a factory service replacement block. If I am correct, there is no partial VIN and maybe no SS stamp. The Buick part number establishing whether it is a stage 1 service replacement was stenciled on the wooden shipping crate in which it was packed in paper and preservative. I do not think records now exist to ID it from the Buick Engineering number with which it is now stamped.

Usually the factory engineering number is on the front driver’s side of the block just below where the head mates. Post a picture for verification.

The reason for the 2016 distributor is that it likely came with the block that this one for sale replaced. (Same for the heads.) A distributor does not come with a service replacement block.

Now if you can just post an asking price and the pictures, we can get this thread back on track and in compliance with the rules for selling here. Once you post an asking price, the first person in line above that expressed interest in the block is first in line to make a deal. If you cannot agree to a sale with the first person in line, move to #2 above and so forth. But, no more of this bidding or best offer stuff. For that you need to go the EBay.

I ended up pulling the manifold intake, valve covers, and heads off to confirm what I was trying to sell here. I never was able to identify the motor so it is sitting apart on shelf. Probably not a good idea on my part to ask best offer as I caused a lot of hassle thanks

The trouble that “for offers” sales caused historically is the very reason that a long time ago we moved to a rule requiring an asking price and a location. Having said that just pick an asking price for this thread that satisfies you. You can always come down to an offer from the prospective buyer next in line.

Post a picture of the area from which you obtained the information “DOEO 1070”. See if the letter “D” is actually the letter”B”.

Scott have you decided if you are going to break the engine up yet ? You"ll probably make more money if you due.

As I suspected it is a 70 factory service replacement short block. What looks like the letter "D", I suspect, is the bottom loop of the letter "B". At another location, you can see that the stamp strike only made a partial impression.

I would not bet on that. If it was an original 455 stage 1 block, it would bear another car's partial VIN.

The intake is date coded January 15, 1970. The top side of those stage 1 heads may have a similar date code but there is no picture to verify this. If the head date codes correspond to the intake, what you see would be consistent with the original block being hurt, a factory service replacement short block being installed with the heads, intake, carb and distributor being reused.
