1970 Skylark AC functional test

    This is important info. I got this from a board member who took it from the shop manual. If you're using R-12 this is what you're looking for...

    Functional Test #1: Doors and hood open, Max cold, Hi fan, Recirc setting, engine at 2000rpm w/ large fan in front of rad grille. Wait 5 minutes for system to stabilize.
    Ambient 70, Low= 28-31, High= 150-225, Right vent temp= 39-42, Left= 39-42
    Ambient 80, Low= 28-31, High= 200-254, Right vent temp= 40-43, Left= 40-43
    Ambient 90, Low= 29-32, High= 240-290, Right vent temp= 42-45, Left= 43-45
    Ambient 100, Low= 29-32, High= 270-330, Right vent temp= 48-54, Left= 48-54
    Ambient 110, Low= 29-35, High= 310-345, Right vent temp= 47-52, Left= 47-52

    I take those with a grain of salt. You can get an a/c thermometer fairly cheap, and from my experience if your a/c blows below 50* at the center outlet on a hot day in the direct sun while driving down the road then you're doing good. In the cooler weather or at night the outlet temps will always be colder, b/c the load on the system is much less. Duplicating those conditions on the chart is very difficult at best, and I think they are intended for just giving you a rough idea of how well the system is cooling. An accurate thermometer is a must for determining whether or not your system is blowing cold enough. :)
