I would like a front bumper that is either re-chromed and ready to go, or needs re-chroming. The trick is that it needs to be super straight. Tough, I know. The reason I am asking like this, is that there are almost no chrome shops left here in Calif that are within driving distance to me. (There used to be three I could easily drive to). I used to be able to inspect and fit them after the straightening process before they got plated. I can't do that if I send them off, so I don't know that I can trust they will get it correctly straightened before plating. So, if you have a straight one, core or re-plated, you would have to be willing to ship it to me also. The one on my car really isn't too bad, but I just don't want to send it off that way and expect it will be correctly done. Any help appreciated. Walt
I have one at the platers now that I'll be selling once it comes back (prob. Oct.) & could ship. It's was a very straight core to begin with. $1300 (shipped to CA). Message me if you're interested.
Brian...Good point, mine is the one with the holes for the impact strips. I would like to keep that type on my car. What do you want for one? Dano: If yours has the holes, let me know.
I will get some more pictures. I shipped a 70 bumper core from here(Pennsylvania) to California last year and it was more than the bumper. Does Hector Carrillo have one? He is in California.
I don't know who Hector is...is he in Nor Cal? That bumper looks pretty darn straight. I found the best shipping cost is to just wrap it in a layer of cardboard you get from behind the appliance store, and tape it up. The weight is cut way back, and you can't hurt a bumper core. Can you give me your zip and maybe the weight of the bumper? My problem too, is having to ship that to chrome it, but I may not have a choice.. Walt
Hector is in SoCal (he has posts on Craigslist). Good person to know. I assume you're not interested in the re-chromed bumper (not a problem if not).
I am interested in the bumper. I'm the type that keeps all my options open. If I focus on one thing only, it seems to fall through and I have to start over. If you notice the bumper in the pic Brian sent, that is one angle I want to see. You can see the rectangle cut outs are perfectly lined up with each other and spacing is all even, it's never been bent. The tip is excellent too. Yours probably makes the most sense for me to buy, but I would like to see pics when you get it back. From the bottom looking up, and the top looking down, and end to end to see how the alignment is. Thanks a lot Walt
Thanks & I understand. It was definitely a very nice core & the guy who straightens them is 84 y/o & has been straightening bumpers for 60 years. They come back great.
That is exactly how I ship bumper cores. I just wrap them in cardboard, not a box. If you don’t find something closer, let me know. I am currently out of town.
By chance do you have a plater you use that you trust? If so, let me know. That would also entail shipping the final product to me if you were willing. It's real tough getting that done out here. Let me know. Thanks, Walt
I have my bumpers done at Keystone in Minnesota,or Tri-City in Kentucky. Both of them are still very good.
I really appreciate all the help. Oddly enough, to my amazement I found a super nice original front bumper one hour from me. I was looking up used skylark parts on CL, and the bumper came up. I couldn't believe it. I'll probably ask you for other parts though as I go along. Thanks again, Walt
