only 6? From MSN: "1972 Buick Skylark Sun Coupe Buick offered a Skylark Custom convertible in 1972 for the sun crowd, but another sunny experience was available with the specially trimmed Sun Coupe package for the Skylark 350 hardtop. American Sunroof Corporation handled the chopping duties, which also included a vinyl folding sunroof available in white, black, sandalwood, tan, brown, or green. Unique to the Sun Coupe was a special carpet available in bright gold or bright red, although black or sandalwood carpet could also be chosen. Gold sail panel nameplates showed this wasn’t just another Skylark. Buick’s records of Sun Coupe production is sketchy, but documents show at least 1127 and no more than 3943 being built. It is known that six GSs were special-ordered with the Sun Coupe package."
I have aways had a flame orange or Sunburst yellow one on my bucket list. Of course there is always the most flamboyant SunCoupe
I have photos of a 72 GS350 Suncoupe in Sunburst Yellow. I think I made a reproduction window sticker for it quite a few years back. There is also the Heritage Green Stage 1 that was in the Musclecar magazines back in the 90's.
Cheers, Two things,Mike was that a western New York car.I saw a yellow gs 350 suncoupe in Wellsville ny years ago. Also there was a light blue suncoupe at the aaca show in Gettysburg last weekend.
Saw this one at a car show in Jekyll Island, Ga. earlier this year. I believe Mike is a member of the forum.
I live in WNY and it was not from around here unless it moved. I have a copy of the original window sticker from it, 4 speed GS 350, the SunCoupe option is listed as SCO, no mention of the SunCoupe options like they were shown on the Skylark SunCoupe window stickers. It was Sunburst Yellow with a black vinyl roof. Looking at the original window sticker you would never know it was a SunCoupe. There was a yellow Skylark SunCoupe for sale on Craigslist in WNY last year though, not a GS.
Building a heritage green " stealth " suncoupe. At paint shop at the moment. Top at the trim shop. It will Look like an ordinary 350 skylark suncoupe but a peek under the hood tells a different story with a healthy hi compression bbb. A peek at the interior reveals ordinary skylark custom interior with the split bench but with 1 extra pedal and a 4 speed with console from a 71 GS. Underneath, the original 2.56 peg leg was swapped for a 3.08 positrac also from the 71 GS. Dual exhaust help the bbb breathe. Disk brakes complete the performance upgrades. Should be completed before summers end. Can't wait to test pilot this one.
Used to be a Flame Orange one that was a pristine low mileage original that ran the Buick Club's Great Lakes region circuit years ago, don't know what happened to that beauty, it was meticulous
Just saw this yesterday. Can be had, but did not ask about price. Sitting 11 years -- just now trying to get it up and running. Told it was black but repainted yellow. Dunno.
