Your engine has a timing chain, not a belt. If the chain broke, the engine would not run and you would have much bigger problems. You need a dwell meter to adjust the points. I suggest you not touch it. Pull one of the plugs and see if they are fouled.
I changed the plugs about 2 years ago when I purchased the car. I pulled one out the other day when checking for spark. It looked clean. Smelled like gas. I guess it wouldn't hurt to change them out. Cheap enough and easy. Ok. Won't touch the points. Someone else suggested to clean the carb really good. Even though I see gas spraying in it, The carb may be gunked up. (Yes, I know it's a chain not belt). Spell check hates me
Here's what to do- get a set of AC 45TS plugs, a new cap, rotor, points and condenser and I'll stop by on Sunday and throw it in for you. Then give it the Jay C super tune. As an added bonus, I will give you a ride in a real saturn yellow GSX 4 speed
The points and condensor slip out sideways when you loosen the mounting screws. Once they are mounted you can adjust them with a feeler gauge to get them close. Then once the car starts you can use the dwell meter and fine tune the adjustment through the door on the distributor cap with a hex key or screwdriver.
Ok, so the top part with the springs doesn't get touched. I just loosen the screws to get the points and condenser to slide out. I do have a feeler guage. That gets adjusted with the hex screw using the feeler..correct so far? I think I can handle that much. Buick64203..as tempting as that sounds, I couldn't ask you to do that. I seriously appreciate the offer!! If / when I do get it started, I'll come to you for that JayC super tune..and definitely that Sunday ride!

Shoot - he was willing to drive all the way up here to Boston to help with mine before I was able to sort it out. The only reason he didn't was scheduling and Mother Nature not cooperating. If he was in my back yard, I'd absolutely take him up on the offer.
Well, no luck so far. I did purchase a new distributor cap, rotor, plugs, and I had to order points and condenser since no store had them in stock. Amazon prime, and I'll have it tomorrow. I found an in line spark tester in the garage, and realize I do not have the spark I thought I had. In fact, I have none at all. Maybe messing around with it, I threw something off. I did put a new coil in it..but that didn't help. Sunday morning, I'll start putting all the new stuff in. I'm semi confident I can put it all in. I'm 100% confident that I will mess something up

Yes, that is the right part, but I think most will tell you that the separate points and condenser are more desirable. What you have there is called a Uniset. I appreciate the verification. It looks pretty straightforward, and i have the factory service manual to confuse me. I went to Rock Auto to order another set to have in the garage if needed. At 54, I survived 2 major heart attacks, as well as beat a round of cancer. Before that, I worked for the NYFD for 26 years and a 9-11 responder. I refuse to let a car not starting to get the best of me. I found this car a couple of years ago about 5 hours from my house, and instantly purchased it and had it transported to my house. It instantly brought me back to the days of sitting in the backseat of my father's 71 skylark when I was 6. It's killing me that I can't get it started, and his offer was generous and says alot about him. I do need the help
