Are in the process of considering to allow 1975 to 1979 Muscle Cars with 200hp or greater to participate in the Pure Stock Drags. We have compiled a list of these cars as follows:
    L-82 Corvette's
    E58 360's and E68 400 Mopar's "A & B Bodies"
    455 Trans Am's
    W72 400 Trans Am's and Formulas

    FYI

Thanks for your participation in the 2015 Pure Stock Drags

    Little Red Express pickup?

Are these cars going to be run through single exhaust with Catalytic convertor? Or are they allowed to upgrade to true duals?
If yes, then it will open the door to older cars that have been in question like a formula S 273 Barracuda with dual into single exhaust?

Not putting up a fight, just wondering how this is going to work?

Unfortunately, no. I think 185hp was as good as it got in '77 & '78. '79 went down to 175. :eek2:

Why base it on hp rating? why not cars that had a performance "image", even though there was no performance?

Your only going to get so many "takers" on this anyway.

Well, with the rules in place as-is, you get to add 1.5 point of compression to some of these turds that couldn't get out of the 16's-17's(maybe slower)stock.
Yes, you will definately see some decreases in E.T. out of these newer low compression smog era cars(and trucks?)

I don't have a problem with it, cause like I said, I don't think you'll see a bunch of takers. You might get a small handful. Won't know until you try.

This reminds me of the Street Rod Nationals. The cut-off year used to be 1949. When it got to the point that people with cars that old were dying off, and participation levels dropped, the NSRA had to move the cut-off year up to include newer classics to keep the show going.

If the PSMCDR organizers feel/see the need to get the numbers up, and this is what they see as a means to do so, then do it !!! Still your sandbox, don't ask us what to do, tell us what to do/expect.

leaves Mopars and GM's. Ford didn't 4 barrel anything passenger car 75-79. Well, ok, 460 Torino/montego/cougar/ranchero and the LTD/Grand Marquis land barges.

Lyndon, lose the 200 net HP thing.

Allow any performance oriented, Muscle car / High performance vehicle factory offering from those years and that would be the way to go.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for your positive comments and suggestions. Dan and Dennis are at a show this weekend, and since we came to the criteria between the three of us I will have to defer making any changes until we get together. I can tell you this, we had to make a decision as to a cut off point and see how it went from there. When they get back we will discuss everything and if changes are to be made we will post them next week. Again thanks for all your support and our aim is to keep the hobby alive and well.

:gp: Lyndon, it would seem like the big issue you'll have to resolve will be what constitutes legal exhaust. So many 1975-1979 domestic cars (I know, there are a few exceptions) had single exhaust and catalytic converter....not to mention the general reduction of cars available with 4-bbl carburetors now in the rules. (One of these days, someone in Studebaker-land is going to show up with a 1957 or 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk, all of which were factory supercharged...but that VR-57 McCulloch supercharger pushes air into a box containing only a 2-bbl carburetor! So long as you guys don't ask us how they fit a 4-bbl in that little box, we'll be good to go on the 4-bbl requirement!)

That said, it appears that you may have addressed the "what qualifies" issue by specifying only certain 1975-1979 cars, per your OP. Personally, I'd like to see a 360 1978 Volare Road Runner set up to run. It would certainly open up the event to people who may own less-expensive cars [on the collector-car market] who would like to participate, and that can't be all bad.

As others have rightly said, your show, your decision, of course. Have at it! :TU: BP

legal exhaust will be the same as any other car at the event:

upgrade to 2.5 inch duel exhaust will be permitted.

ANY 1975-1979 car will need to be pre-authorized by Dan and Lyndon, please contact them to discuss the eligibility of a specific car
