    1966 skylark
    300 4 barrel
    rebuilt edelbrock 600 cfm
    New:
Battery, alternator, starter, distributor, pertronix, cap, rotor, wires, plugs , coil.

Motor will turn but no start.
plugs were soaked in fuel, pulled them , cranked out the excess fuel, cleaned plugs.
fuel, spark, compression (motor ran before carb rebuild).
    Distributor is not 180 out

Could the plugs be so fouled that I can't get it to start?

    Thanks in advance

Could be the float in the carb isn't set right causing it to flood out? GL

If the plugs are soaked with gas, its obviously getting fuel, is it getting spark?

it's getting spark, but I'm wondering if it isn't strong enough due to the previous fuel baths from starting the car before carb rebuild and after. (0 miles on plugs, but countless cranks)
Will get a new set tomorrow to rule out.

    Will have to check carb

You are in the right direction there. Need to let all that fuel evaporate
with the plugs out. If they get too soaked the plugs won't spark.

Brand new set of plugs and new battery (warranty  )

    Made no difference.
Just turns , no strange noises just hear pressure shoot from the manifolds in firing order

Sooo, the car died, and you rebuilt the carb and it still won't start? Or did you also change the distributor/etc at the same time?

Just trying to get on the same page...

    got motor started
carb was leaking fuel but started the car
distributor was worn out wouldn't stay in place
replaced distributor 1st, car started till carb gave out.
Carb rebuilt, no start after installing.

Sounds like the carburetor is flooding. Float level is wrong, or needle/seat is sticking.

Fresh gas? No water in tank? You say the car started but did it run and drive down the road or did it just "start" for a few minutes/seconds? You say the old distributor was worn out and "wouldn't stay in place". Did it jump time?

As a 35 yr veteran mechanic, are you SURE it's not 180 out???? SURE???? check it again...SURE???

My 2 cent w/what you gave us.

    Carb is flooding ^
Taking back to mechanic, believes float became "dislodged".

    Will post outcome

    Thanks everyone

Recheck everything this time, plug wire order, timing and pull the plugs
occasionally to see if they are soaked. Just because it fired and ran
doesn't mean the order is correct, or timing is fine. It can run poorly
for a bit and then not restart due to improper firing order.

    New gaskets in carb.

Pertronix ignitor was mounted on wrong side of distributor, wrong mounting hole pattern.
Flipped it around, put 1 screw and fired right up.

Always check what you messed around with last! And check the easiest stuff
first. How did it fire with the ignition flipped around like that????!!!!

That's what I was thinking to!?
I posted videos here of it running set up like that.
I jumped that distributor around so many times maybe I just got lucky.
    now timing. . .
    & brakes

    Thanks everyone

I think I'm having similar issues. I just added a new starter, and alternator. When I tried to start, it fired back from the carburetor ( at least that's what my buddy the mechanic said). He told me that the car is getting fuel to the carburetor but the plugs could be wet and I need to remove them, replace them and let the fuel evaporate. Could this be the issue or something else? Plus, which spark plugs are y'all using in your 65 300 Lark? Thanks in advance.

Seems you have a timing issue....

So the car is starting and it sounds great. I have driven it a few times and the generator light no longer comes on. I had to have my carburetor rebuild and now it's working great. Thanks guys.
