okay so here is the deal I got this car as a project that someone else started... they threw it together.. I got it understanding that. but the combination of engine and car made it irresistable for me. so here I am with a few questions... first. it is a 1990 toyota supra with a "70 455 from a riviera" and a turbo 400 tranny.. I think it I need a timing cover... it seems when I tried to replace the water pump none of the long bolts want to go in all the way. and whoever put it on last time put enough silicone in the holes to kill pamela anderson. and every time I put the bolt back in to try to get it to work. I just get some grimy dirt/silicone mix of stuff that just ends up in the threads.. issue two... the cooling. electric fan with modified radiator on angle. everything looks pretty sturdy though the radiator is kind of beat up. though the engine overheats in about 3 to 4 minutes.. and no real heat at bottom hoses. I guessed water pump. and that is what got me to come accross issue one... anyone that has extra stock parts laying around e-mail me. I want to get this thing going so I will take whatever I can. it is pretty hard to find anything around here I am in the army so time and money are both limited for me. and anything like a 455 is like a page in the history book here... most people I have to explain what a 455 is.... thanks, justin
Have you tried looking on E-bay for what you want? If someone on this site doesn't help you the parts you require should be available there. I usually look under (Buick 455) and that covers most 455 stuff. Except for some things I have bought on this site I have bought everything else off E-bay. Hope this helps (from a old retired E8).
455 in toyota supra you're too far away for me to be much help but i'd just like to say: YOU'RE MY HERO! :beers2: oh yeah, and good on that military service thing too. and a turbo 400 tranny.. do you have any idea how kick @$$ this would be with a 5 speed? :3gears: yeah, i know, expensive. ou: there's a Buick get together in Bowling Green every summer. you just missed it.
Justin, You are in luck. There is a board member named Rusty Davenport that lives very near Ft. Campbell, and has a bunch of Buick 455 parts. You can find him by looking on the members list under his name, Rusty Davenport. Then send him a Private Message or an e-mail. I feel sure he'd be happy to help you. Good luck with your project.
The silcone is in there because the person before you stripped the threads on the aluminum timing cover.
"enough silicone in the holes to kill pamela anderson." I'm sure she has enough silicone to re seal the gaskets of several 455's
