482 rods now available

    I would guess no because the 470 kits use the same length rod so the compression distance would be .050" to high for a 482;

    .100" more stroke divided by 2 = .050" to much compression distance.

    Of coarse you might be able to have the top of the piston machined down and or use thicker head gaskets to make the pistons work? Not sure how thick you can get head gaskets for your BBB but if they make them .090" thick, that may be all you need to do? Along with longer pushrods of coarse, but if in you're going to get new ones anyway that wouldn't matter.

    This is a brand new Big Block Buick Rod from Molnar, created at my request... 6.800 long, .990 pin, .923 big end width (BBB) and it's for a 2.100 diameter rod pin. This new rod has the Buick bank offset, so they center up nicely under the pistons. I use them with a set of King Racing CR807HPN bearings, for a direct fit to the BBB offset ground crank. Depending on how much radius your crank grinder leaves, you might have to just shave a corner of the rod bearing, but it's a very minor deal, and a very good bearing for street/strip and drag racing motors. I use them exclusively in all my offset grind combos. 470,482 and 494 ci.



    Nope, we would have to get you a new set of pistons, the CD is .050 too high on those.. If you got those from me, and they are still new, I can find a home for them, and get you going with a new set of 482 pistons. Currently, we are just changing the 470 piston, but if interest warrants, I will have a new shelf stock part number Developed for me at Diamond racing, for the 482 pistons. So there is an extra charge for changing the CD, 8 bucks per piston... and of course shipping charges.. now keep in mind, the extra .100 offset grind, adds about a hundred bucks to the crank grind cost.

    The 482 is a combo of crank, rod and piston..

    Jim...two simple questions: I'm thinking about the 482 BBQ rather than the 525 I wanted. I have two questions: 1.Would the 482 reciprocating assembly survive in a non-girdled block in the same parameters of a stout Street- Strip engine...? 2.Outside of You building the shortblock, would the rod bearings be .010 as they would be in my 464 BBQ...(.010 mains/ .010 rods) My goal is a bigger BBQ engine/ more torque.)     It depends... they usually try and keep them in stock, but we have had periods where they have been on backorder.

    If you interested in a set, I can call on Monday and check stock for you.

    I'm looking for a very light set of 470 pistons. I'm currently running JE. Was thinking of 1mm compression ring and 2 mm oil. Could go 1.5 comp. and 3 oil. Using a BBC 6.800 rod. Wondering what you use or have available. Thanks.

    My Diamond 470 pistons come in right about 615g, I believe I did a small ring/H-11 pin set last year, that the piston/pin combo was right around 740g total.. The superlight milling option is standard on those pistons, but I think there is one or two more operations that can be done to them to get the piston down to around 600.. you looking for a flat top here? I can call on Monday and see what I can do for you.

    Yes, flat top with 0 to -.001 deck. I may need to do some measuring to see what the deck will be. Current piston is 1.795. I'm traveling next week. I'll get back to you. I really need to see what these JE are. I think 685 but not sure. Thanks for getting back so quickly. I do need to get rolling on this as soon as holidays are over. Jim N.

    Bobb Makely did a nailhead crank in a 455. The impression I got was that it was more work than it was worth.

    this is a mopar 440 crank has 2.2 rods 4.250 stroke, but very small compaired to ours at 2.750. no clue on if the overall length is close to use without tons of work. but at under 800?????????could be a nice place to start if it wont take crazy work to fit. I'm sure the rear would have to highly worked over to fit our wheel on

    From what I understand Bob ran that "Nail" crank for 3-4-5 yrs. at 7500+ RPM's with a Pro-Charger. I could be wrong as I didn't keep up with what was happening at the time. IF that's so it would be worth the hassle as you can find 401/425 cranks for as little as $100.00 & they are a QUALITY piece for being a stock crank.
