Thanks Dan, Here are a few more pics from yesterday. The headers are all fit in place and tacked up. Now to disassemble and weld. The starter is a little tricky to get in and out, but it'll be able to be replaced if necessary without major work.
Yes.....unfortunately I have a fair amount of experience building headers.....from street rods to truck pullers to drag cars. LOL It's actually fun to conquer the challenges, but in this case I had some crazy notion that the ones I had were going to fit and they didn't. Oh Well!!!
Nope......not getting fancy with that portion. With the boost I dont think it's that critical. Going to a 4" collector, then to a 4" Granatelli cutout. Before the cutout it'll have 3" pipes going to a fairly quiet exhaust sysyem. I know I'm giving up some HP in some areas, but if I have 1100 or 1300 HP.......what's the difference. This will still see a lot of street duty and not strictly the fastest car out there. I also didn't spend the extra time to make all the tubes equal length. Again.....on an all out max effort it's a must, but for the 20 HP difference I'll skip all the hassle. Over 1000 HP on the street is going to be too much already...........naaaahh!! Lol
Just a little more progress over the holidays. Header tubes are welded and rough prepped. All I need to do now is to weld them to the flanges (inside and out) and finish up the collectors. Starting to mock up the blower and brackets. I also mounted the radiator in the core support after some modifications, and checked for clearances with the water pump, etc. So far everything is fitting together without MAJOR modifications.....hope that continues, but this isn't my first rodeo.....I know there'll be some larger hurdles coming my way! LOL Wish I could work on it full time!! LOL
Mark, I bought the wheels and tires used with few miles on them. The rears are MT 275's on 10" wheels. There's room to go 295's, but I doubt that I'll squeeze in 315's.
Hey Steve, Starting to look like a car!! An AWESOME car! Can you share your engine build specs; pistons, compression, crank, stroke, cam, heads, flow, rockers, etc.? Or are there too many sensitive trade secrets not fit for public consumption? Reason I ask is to learn a little more about building a boost specific Tomahawk instead of N/A. Keep the updates coming, it's gonna be a sweet ride!!
Thanks Phillip, We're still working on some of the specifics for the engine build. So far I know it'll be 535 CI, hydraulic roller cam, (specs not yet complete), Stage 3 heads, Crower crank, Diamond pistons, F1R ProCharger, (F2 would have been a better choice, but I'm on a budget!), SP2 intake with blow through QF carb. I'll utilize a TA front cover with a short TA water pump, TA oil pump cover with an external oil pickup.....while using the stock location oil pump. If all goes to plan, "someday" in the future I'd like to build my own intake and run EFI of some sort. It's really a pretty basic build with nothing being too elaborate. I figure I'll let the "boost" make the power and just have the right parts in place to handle it. At least that's the "plan". LOL
Not much time available for the build right now as I'm knee deep in oil pans, etc., but I did sneak in a few minutes here and there for more mock up. Of course, NOTHING can just bolt on without modifications! LOL [/ATTACH]
A little progress on the cage. The main hoop is welded up and tacked in place. I have the rear bars mocked up and need to bend up the CM tubes. Next I'll get the halo and forward down tubes fit and in place......going to need to cut the dash up for those, as I'm trying to keep all of the tubes tucked away as much as possible. After those are bent and tacked in place, I'll concentrate on the forward frame bars and all of the cross bars. At the speed I'm going it'll be late spring before the cage is done.............
That looks great Steve. Nice and tight to the roof and the rear bars follow the natural lines of the car. It will be virtually invisible when your done. Nice job!
Little progress, but little is better than none! LOL It feels good to see it with the fenders hung on, even though it's only for mock up.
