Where to find it The NHRA trunk mounted battery info is in the NHRA tech link that Bob & Dan provide on the PSMCDR site (or used to, haven't been on it in a long time). The existence of the 427 Fairlane automatics is mentioned in a book that I can reference tomorrow when I look it up tonight. I think it's titled "Ford Muscle" or some other such nonsense. Also I can give you the page of the Davis SS book that mentions the C/SA Nationals winner. If you're really thinking of doing this, look for a 390 big block car, as they have the reinforced shock towers & the 9" rear axle housing. I'm running a Detroit Locker, which was also an option for these cars. Wayne, email me your mailing address & I'll send you those factory documents. spalma@forsiteprop.com
I'm pretty sure these cars were only available with a 4-speed. The fiberglass hood was optional in 1967. Production figures can be found HERE!
Brian is right, the Genisis block is not legal.End of story.I found a NOS 427 block on Ebay, needs a few sleeves from pitting.Hey, only $1500 at this point.
427 Ford I asked my loonnnggg time Ford racing buddy (over 50 years) tonight about this and here's what he remembers: The '66 was four speed only. '67 was either four speed or automatic. Single four barrel with hinged hood would run (at that time) SS/E. Single four barrel with open hood would run SS/D. Dual four barrels with open hood would run SS/C. Don't know if this helps or confuses the issue more. Ted
Good luck Wayne!!! :beer I've always loved those cars..........I hope you Lay the Smack Down with it!!! :TU: Wayne
Maybe an almost complete engine? Wayne, Talked to a long time friend of mine today who is into Ford's. Asked him if he had any 427 pieces. Says he has a complete 427 medium-riser minus exhaust manifolds and that while he isn't really interested in selling yet, one never knows o No: . He is supposed to call me with whether or not he is going to sell. Lon OO====OO BTW, he was going to build a 427 Fairlane but gave up and sold the body when he couldn't find a complete bench seat interior (only to find what he was looking for 2 months after selling the car)
Lon Keep me posted on that one!I'm searching the net for any and all 1967 Fairlane parts.427 engines and parts too! This stuff sure ain't cheap!
Will do! The guy that has it is the guy who I turn to when someone is looking for Ford parts. He is a wealth of info on Ford stuff. He use to race with us in FSMCDR with his 68-1/2 Cobra Jet 'stang that he had bought new. Car had run in the 12.8-13.1 range (1.95 60ft) in Pure Stock trim. He says running through the restrictive exhaust manifolds and on factory tires is going to be the biggest hurdle.
package coming Wayne, I finally got everything copied, I'm sending it out today. Also included a copy of an ad from this month's Fairlaner for the fan exhaust manifolds. I think you'll find the factory correspondence about the trunk mounted battery interesting. Good luck with your project, Stan
Wayne......get the wallet out! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fair...ryZ33632QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Not as swoopy as the Merc / Galaxie manifolds.......but the car is a 1000lbs lighter  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...ryZ33631QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It seems pretty fair. o No: I haven't really been watching other than a couple years ago when I contemplated doing a 427 Comet. At that time a set was for sale with a buy it now of $1200
Thank you Stan Palma! Stan sent me a ton of info on the 66-67 427 Fairlanes. The paper work shows the 67's were available with 8.15x15 inch tires,Automatic (I still might build a 4 speed) and a glass lift off hood.Battery in the trunk was also an option. These a cars are said to weigh only 3300lbs!Thats only about 100 more than my Vette now weighs. And I really think the 427 Ford has potential to out HP the 427 Chev in Pure Stock trim.
I always said Wayne was a cool guy........ 3300lbs........yep just about a 1000 less ou: Here comes the first 11 sec P/S Ford! :TU:
