There seems to be a lot of interest in the L-79 Chevy II lately. I think there are 3 P/S regulars that are considering this combination.:eek2:

Tom, looks like one has been built and will be at Rusty's St. Louis race in a few weeks.

I know we're talking about L79 Novas, but if I had the funds there would be a 70 LT1 Yenko Nova at the Stanton.A dark blue one with white stripes and a white interior. 4 spd of coarse.

Here is a dirty picture of one. Just fired it up after sitting for 6 years. I helped restore the car in 98. Numbers matching 327/350 horse real L79 SS. I have the SS hub caps for it, but dig the poverty caps a little more.
It has been sitting since my friend passed away, and his widow finally gave me the opportunity to buy it. Really a neat car. I have never been much of a Chevy guy, but just love the Nova.
I'll let you know what it runs in a month or so.

Thanks, not being a Chevy guy I have no idea. I do have the factory build sheet on the car if it helps. I have heard so many stories of "you couldn't order this with this", that I have seen disproved time after time again.
My 66 GTO is a great example. 3 factory build sheets, and PHS docs . I still get guys that say you couldn't order a 66 GTO with Tri power and air, or a power bench seat all that this car has.
Don't really want to start a debate in Tom's thread so I'll edit my original post, just trying to contribute.

Me either...but it would be a killer combo...

[edit]AVC, post the sheet, or at least give it a quick read through...with GM, we never say never![/edit]

The guy I had out to appraise the car on Sat has the folder on the car currently. When I get it back I will look at the build sheet. Going through the scratch paper on my desk. 11837 car, engine code F1103Z1, trim tag TR 765, r-r paint, w 2M. Vin stamped block. Trans code was a 66 but not correct for the car.

  15. Neal Robbins from NY ran a butternut yellow '66 L79 Nova at the Pure Stock drags in the late '90's. The car was fully documented, and was sold new from some tiny town in southern Alabama. He restored the car himself, and 'built' the engine.

I attended that event with Neal, his son Chris, and his machinist buddy Larry. The sound that car made when it was fired up on the open trailer turned heads. If I recall, it was gently suggested that Neal bring his Yenko Deuce back to the event for the next year :Brow: It ran a best of 13.0x's at 109+.

The best comment was from Stefina at the Friday night gathering at the hotel; "... that pro-stock, I mean 'stock' Nova..." We had a good laugh, Neal wasn't fooling anyone!

  17. I don't believe I'll make Stanton this year - I'll be happy to just get to the SCR in Collinsville, IL! I'm thrilled with the 13.5 @ 104+, primarily bec/ I know there's more in it. I've got to work on the 60' times, gotta replace my worn out leaf springs, etc.... you guys know the drill. My best move after the 2.5" exhaust upgrade was removing the 5" tach from the steering column - one less distraction, shift by seat of the pants, 4th by half track.... just like Pete told me :eek2:

Back to the L79 topic. One of the several years I attended the Stanton event there was a '67 (?) Chevelle with an L79 in it, blue 4 speed car I think. It ran pretty good, especially for it being a heavier car than a Nova.

Definitely...that was in St. Louis, in JULY, which is akin to racing in a sweaty arm pit...and a few more runs under your belt in that car wouldn't hurt anything either! :Brow:
