66 Special moving forward

    Well gee, I went outside to let the dog out and put him in the shop about 2130 this evening. This weird thing came over me and I decided to mate these two together on a blind date and all of the sudden they’re spending the first night in their new home………… on a side note, I realized once again tonight that I’m NOT 21 any more. This hurts a little!

    Love the LS with singlepot master and drums still on the front.

    Whose motor mounts? Oil pan? Headers? are you using?

    Brakes are all coming off but I think I’m going to stick with manual brakes over power. The mounts are all hooker blackheart series (rear-bias location) and speed engineering headers. It all dropped right in which was nice since I was working solo when I did it. It’s all tightened down now and I just swapped all of the body bushing on Sunday. Did that solo too using a floor Jack, a few 4x4’s and my engine hoist. Old man retard strength got it done! 55 year-old bushings looked rough!

    Nice project, probably looking into a 65-67 for a future project.
    i love my buicks but LS is really where it is at. the potential and ease of reliable usage is unbeatable to me.
    i struggled with my actual project ( 69 C10 ) to decide between a good running 455 or a cammed 5.3 LS ( i went with the 455 now ).

    i previously Sold my 70 ProLark that was a cammed 6.0 LS swap, what a joy it was. the build was so much fun, if you consider anything wiring i tell you do the HOLLEY TERMINATOR X . its painless and worth every penny.

    What transmission are you running with the combo - will be starting my ‘66 soon and was leaning towards the forward ls mounts

    Where did you find the body bushings and what brand are they?

    Not sure what brand they are. I got them through year one for a chevelle. The core support bushings are separate though and I also bought the hardware kit so it went together with all new bolts.

    I used a Performabuilt 4L60e black series with a few updates. It needed some clearance around the accumulator because I used a huge sonnax accumulator instead of stock. With the rear bias the heads are about three inches from the firewall. Going with the forward mounts gives you some extra room to work in the rear of the motor for sure.
