so i have the old panels off the conv. I got new ones from legendary auto interiors. How do i get the clips off the back without breaking the GS emblem? any helps please thanks johnny
If you don't care about the original panel use a hole saw to cut around the clips there. It's easier to get those clips off without fighting the door panel. Or just a small screw driver. Pry slowly and gently. Once you get enough room in between the panel & the clip you may be able to turn the clip as it unscrew the clips off. Those little clips are a pain.
yes they are a pain. thanks boys i'll try that. If i break them i can just buy new ones right? lol johnny
Yep, Parts Place has them! Or that Bicycling Fox should have some cheap ones. No worries! (sarcasm) Patrick
Sacrifice the clips. Either cut them or bend the tabs out. Just saw a thread on here looking for one emblem & he said that they're unobtanium (maybe the guy doesn't want to use or doesn't know about repros).
There are no repros and they are very hard to find. Definitely sacrifice the fasteners and avoid damaging the emblem posts.
The posts are part of the body casting and cannot be fixed (easily) if broke. 67 is one year only, 68 will fit but only say "GS" and not GS400. I would take a small screw driver and try to spin the clips counter clockwise slowly to see if they will work their way up and off. Or like someone said, cut the old door panel away so you can get underneath them and slowly work them off. You are correct, there are no reproductions..
If the pins do break use some silicone. Hold it with masking tape and you can prop something against it if need be. Let it sit 24 hours. Just don't get carried away with the silicone so it doesn't squish out.
