An update-I borrowed a borescope from my local club and got a close up of the block surface. I was able to make out the last 6 numbers, but with difficulty. I had the same result on the block code, but could make out the RS. There is a patina on the block that blends in the numbers. I can't feel the numbers with my finger, so they must not have been stamped very deep. The pictures really helped because I got the idea for the scope once I was convinced I was in the right place. Thanks for the help.

And the saga continues---I am now trying to verify the transmission numbers. I have the tag showing a correct 69 BB transmission. The Stage 1 Registry seems to indicate the last 8 of the serial number are on it, but not at all clear of where. If anyone has a picture of theirs it would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks all. I thought it was behind the BB tag, so the picture sure helped. I had a time getting a good view and picture because my header was right there. But I got it, and it is the correct number for my car.

Sorry to jump into the end of this, but i thought it would be a good thread to ask this, I have a 1969 Stage 1 convertible that I am in the middle of a frame off, after looking at all of my numbers , I found that my TH400 is a BT code trans, it is date coded nearly perfect to the build date. My family has had this car since early 1970 and no one remembers it ever having a trans problem. Would the factory grab a trans from another line and install to keep production running? Other than that all numbers match.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

Is there a VIN stamped above the pan rail on the driver's side as shown in the photo above? That should provide the answer.

The BB stage 1 trans had a different calibration for "firmer shifts" at a higher RPM (than stock).

I have looked at that number, it does not match my vin. From my memory for a long time ago, the trans seems to be geared correctly( i haven't driven this car is nearly 40 years). It pulled out of the hole and did run high 12, low 134 in the 1/4. I never had any reason to question that it wasn't the factory install.

Morning. If the VIN stamp doesn't match, it is not original to the car.

Exactly unless maybe it's close (a few cars off) and was installed incorrectly. If it's way off then...
The #'s on my Stage one are light as well unfortunately but are there and orig.
