Sooooo many details. It always amazes me how many small bits make up these cars.

Looking good! I remember counting up the individual parts that make up the hood scoop/ seal plates. I think it was around 24 parts.

Started on interior work. I’m about 1/3 done inside there. Looks like more, but there is a lot involved with the door panels and rear panels before installing. The seats are recovered already. So they are just needing to be bolted down.

I added a few items to the engine compartment this evening after my weekly care package from Todd arrived LOL

Well, it runs. Engine break in went well…after I removed the inspection cover. Apparently I have the wrong one and it’s rubbing the crank.

I can’t get it to idle well at all…and the alternator is shorting internally. So tomorrow a new one goes on. The. I’ll continue troubleshooting the idle issue. Lots of other little things came up after I put power to the car for the first time. Always do…

Despite several things that escaped my ability to complete or fix, we came home with a gold award at the GS nationals.

The coolest part was being able to catch these three burnished saddle coupes out in the wild together. Couldn’t resist a photo opp. Kurt Riecken, Mike Jackson, and myself pictured. The owner was camera shy:D

more info to come, but I have to get home and unpacked.

I am sure he was surly, grumbling and talking under his breath saying "f*ck no, I don't want to be in any damn picture" ... and had a cavalcade of many other expletives... LOL

    Nice work, Adam!

Ok, a few details about the bugs we encountered while trying to get the car to run.

Carb had what I call "nozzle drip" and wouldn't run at low idle. It would run if I stuck it up to 1000 rpm, though. I asked Rob Ross to look at it, so he took it over to Fred Catlin's tent and they both tore into it. Fred had a few choice words about "who the f*ck worked on this carb last?" But they got it put back together and I stuck it back on the car. Fuel dripping issue was resolved, but still wanted to die, mostly if put into gear.

Long story short, after two bad coils, we are in business.

Then there's the transmission. Won't find 2nd or 3rd gears. It winds out in 1st like it won't shift, but when I let off the throttle to let it shift, and it just start slipping. I can pull it back down to 1st gear manually, but there isn't anything else there. Just nothing. So when we got the car home, we ripped the transmission out and sent it back to ID with Mike.

I have several other things that need attention, which most can easily be remedies. Stuff that only comes up after it's been driven around the block or more. Plus whatever they found on the judging sheet.

We were fortunate to have three exceptionally nice Burnished Saddle cars in the same place. I saw a couple other ones there, but missed an opportunity to speak with them about a photo opp. One was a racer and the other (I think) was in the top 25 cars show field.

Most likely something with the valvebody - a stuck ball or something else in there. Just had a similar problem with one of mine.

We had considered pulling the pan and checking the valve body....but just didn't have the energy or time at the track. It's out and back at the builder's to go through it.

Builder didn’t find anything wrong except a dirty governor. I reinstalled the transmission and it did the same thing. Since he is 8000 miles away, he is asking me to replace the governor with a different known working one. I’m replacing the modulator too, while I’m down there. God I hope that works. I don’t want to have to pull it again.

New governor and modulator did not fix it. Back to the builder it goes.
