Agreed, someone is going to get a heck of a ride, it is an ultimate street sleeper. If anyone has had a ride in a 470 with the 413 4/7 swap they know. As Larry has mentioned a few times, the appreciation of Jim as an engine builder cannot be over stated. This motor surprises me every time I drive it. Thank you all for your support. Byron
Good morning, a couple a ad ins, the distributor is a MSD not Mallory - and I will add some pics of interior and the rust free floor.
Interested, Can you tell me how are it's street manners? How old is the engine build? What stahl converter is in it? Do the factory gauges work? Does the A/C work well? What exhaust is on it and is it loud or more mellow sounding? Thank you
John, Street manners are excellent - I have a switch to speed up the idle when the air is on - it idles at 850 with the the air on, and idles at 850 with the air off. The Converter is about 2200 - it is a JW Converter - a tickle over stock. All the factory gauges work - the tach works - I have a newer radio in it - the original goes with the car and it works. I thought the radio was bad - found out it was the antenna. The AC works - it is a Pro6Ten Compressor, converted to R134, it has a pressure relief valve inline - it is adjustable and could be tightened up a bit. The exhaust is Magnaflow 2.5 stainless steel with crossover X. I find the exhaust comforting - (I know that sounds strange). I was trying to find the date that Jim built the motor - I would say for sure Jim built the motor 5 or 6 years ago. No more than 1,500 miles on the motor - mostly to and from the golf course. This motor has not been raced, it has an MSD Distributor and a MSD box - not Mallory as previously mentioned. The rev limiter is set at either 5800 or 6000 rpm. Hope this helps - I have video of the motor running that I can post if I can figure out how. Thx, Byron
In your other post you said you had an offer of 40k from someone who lives 20 minutes from you. Why would you try to sell it here for 39.5? None of my business obviously but I just don't get it. GLWS
G S. The gentleman opted out - first question was what I would go down to for price. Before he looked. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work for me and for most folks. Thanks, b
John, I can’t get the video to load. I get to 100% and then I get a security alert. If you pm me your cell I can send to you. Sorry, Byron
Good Morning Byron, I got your video. Thank you! Can you tell me whether the body has had any metal work done to it? Floors, Quarters, Fenders, Doors? Also, does it need to idle at 850? Sorry, I am not familiar with the stroker 470 from TSP. What I have read on the forum though, it is a very good build. Thank you
Byron's was the 5th 470 built, in Nov of 2012.. I will email Byron a copy of his engine spec sheet and he can share it with interested purchasers. Nice car, I have seen and ridden in it. JW
Good Morning Jim, Just a few quick questions to you. Does it need to idle at 850rpm? Have you experienced any issues with the 470 builds from this time frame? Are there any regular tuning requirements like adjusting the valvetrain or anything else? Thank you in advance.
John - Jim was kind enough to send me the invoice, I was surprised it was in 2012. It idles at 850 on the factory tach - I believe that number is close - it could be off a little either way. I set the idle at that rate only because it sounded right to me and would idle in gear easily - while not banging into gear. Thanks, Byron
John - I failed to answer all your questions. When the car had a frame on restoration (body mounts were changed - as well) the body person told me the trunk, quarters, gas straps and tank would need to be replaced soon and that he recommended replacing them before painting. So we did - I do not recall replacing the doors but I believe they were as well. The floors were not replaced as they were good and without rust. The pictures of the trunk show the work that was done - hope this helps - Byron
Good Afternoon Byron, I am extremely interested in your car and would like to maybe come take a look at it, Are you in a hurry to see it go? I only ask because I would need to schedule a date to come look at it and with the holiday coming up, it may take a few weeks to get to you. If you would, please call me sometime at your convenience and we can discuss further. Thank you!
I would imagine it could idle slower, but the 413 cam is pretty comfortable at that rpm in neutral.. Only two things are different with today's builds.. We now have a custom Buick spec rod for it, and we use the Johnson lifters.. I don't recall but we may have changed the lifters in this one after it was built.. I did upgrade several of them. Most were just noise issues. The issues I had with Morel lifters sticking did not start for several years after this. It's a hydraulic roller, no maintenance required.
