The 69 Skylark is our backup vehicle. It runs great but want to increase gas mileage a bit with a overdrive. Between the 700r or 200r. It's a stock 69 Skylark Custom sedan with only a stock 4 barrel conversion. Which would you choose and why?

    It's the simplest swap.
Dual bellhousing bolt pattern will bolt to buick engine (700 needs adapter)

200-4r has better gear ratios. As Ken said it is also a simple swap.

2004R is the same length as a 350. Pretty simple swap like the others said. I put one in my 65 skylark in place of the 300ST. Just had to move the trans mount farther back. With the 700 you need to shorten the drive shaft I believe.

on any car that has a short shaft trans the 2004r is a direct bolt in which is what you have. no driveline mods. now if you had a big car yes a 700r4 requires a very cheap adapter but its the same length as the long shaft trans just info for people looking. to add also the 2004r can be built alot stronger than a 700r4.
