Was digging thru my collection of carbs and found a 7041242. I got it many years ago to put on my clone 71 Stage 1 conv. But I'm thinking since it is a clone car why have a real Stage 1 carb on it? I bought it in the 80s off a wrecked Stage 1 in the junkyard and it has not been used since. Looks to have had little use...I didn't pay much since I just pulled it off and went up to counter and asked how much? I seem to remember sprinkling it with dirt to get it cheaper. Qjets were a dime a dozen back then and all they did was ask what it was off. I just said "Buick" Questions: Should I rebuild it? Should I rebuild and put it on my car to test? Does rebuilding and testing add value? Or do people want all original? And finally...what is a price range if I were to try to sell it?
It has 1509 MD Does that mean 150th day of 1979? It would be a service replacement carb not original??
Jason, does service replacement mean it is no longer a 71 stage 1 carb, or just that it was reworked somehow in 1979?
Basically, when you went to the dealer in 1979 and wanted a new carb for your 71 Stage 1. they sold you a new 7041242 carb just like what was on there originally, but it was made in 1979, not 1971
I've never opened it up. Is it better not to for value?...virgin. Or open it up and see if it has correct rods and jets for Stage 1? Just checked....It does have AU rods like it's supposed to. The other screws don't look like they have ever had a screwdriver on them.
I could be wrong but wouldn't that be an original equipment date (49th day of '71)? Agreed, unless restored to a coucours level which would prob. cost more than the extra you'd get out of it.
