Does anyone know if they made a 71 gs sun coupe? Any with stage 1 motor? Saw this on Facebook. 30 year barn find with dual 4 Kenne Belle motor.

They didn’t offer the SunCoupe package until ‘72. A few of those were Stage 1 GSs. That car appears to be a ‘72 SunCoupe with some parts from a ‘71. I could easily imagine a wrecked or rusty ‘71 Stage 1 donating its front clip, rear bumper and drivetrain to a cleaner body that happened to be a SunCoupe. The VIN will tell you a lot (especially whether it’s a SunCoupe Stage car).

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

The owner posted photos of the VIN and trim tag and it's a '71 model car built the first week of December 1970.

There were no detailed photos of the roof provided to determine anything about it's originality. My first guess would be that the Sun Coupe roof was simply added later.

Ok, so it’s a ‘71 GS in Platinum Mist, built in Flint without a vinyl top. Somewhere during its life (maybe the crazy ‘all cars need a sunroof’ late ‘70s) it got a roof transplant. Now you need to decide what to do with it. It could be a GS455, even a Stage 1, that if documented could be worth restoring with a solid roof. Or fix it up more cheaply and enjoy a GS with a big sunroof!

Patrick- I no longer argue with the uneducated on Facebook. I provide factual information we all know to be true, add links, and try to be done with it. When someone’s mind is made up, good luck trying to change it...
