Dash is out. We will decide if wiring harness needs to be replaced. It’s in overall good shape. There are a few splices. Also we will need to repair a few small plastic mounts where screws hold things on. They things just aren’t meant to come apart.
Some original sound deadener is coming up in small pieces. We are happy to see some pristine metal under it,
72 only fasten seat belts pod on top of dash hadn’t worked in years. Used only on gauge cars. Buick used it too. I took it apart and it has the same bulb as map light mirror. I honestly never even knew how it worked so I took it apart. After the new bulb I tested with a jumper on a battery and it works. He wants that annoying buzzer to work too.
Overuse of POR on floorboards about 30 years ago is evident. There was very minor surface rust then and it worked very well. We overdid it on nice metal too where it peels off like black scotch tape. A few spots had some original tar sound deadener still present. Man is that stuff a bear to scrape off.
Anyone looking for a Fisher Build sheet on a Buick check that triangular cubby on the upper left. They often rolled them up and stuffed them in there. Never found one there on an Olds However,
Managed to find frame numbers under the undercoating. Parish Pressed Steel with correct part number. Built date 5/9/72 only a week or two before car was built.
Almost pristine OW tag on original w30 Turbo 400 transmission. Early built 71 Stage-1 used the OW as well as Buick ran out of BB turbo 400 for some reason. It’s pretty much the same.
Starting in 71 GM used this stand pipe behind the rear seat. I think it’s filled with Charcoal. Multiple vent pipes from the fuel tank vent into it.
The one hose set a little away from the others contained this small plastic restrictor for some reason? I find them in all 71-72’s. They must have wanted to restrict vacuum? The hole is ridiculously small, most people don’t know it’s there and tossed it. I forgot it was there and almost cut through it with the snips while cutting out the hoses. Dumb luck I missed it. It will go in the new hose.
I know my 08B 72 stage-1 original trans is a BB code. I have had four convertibles from the west coast and they have been undercoated (sound deadener) covered front to back. Front inner fenders and gas tanks as well. I thought the 71's were the ones that sometimes used the OW. Great work... .
Yes you are 100 percent correct. It is early 71 Stage1 that used the OW. That was a misprint on my part. I fixed it. Thanks for the catch. I hate looking like a dope.
