hello all, has anyone attempted to add a vintage air unit to a 72 limited, but wasnt ordered with a/c, just curious how difficult this addition would be.
Contact LonghornSS on this forum. He helped me pick the parts needed to install vintage air on my 68 Buick Special... since no one has a kit. He also makes a very nice compressor bracket for the new style compressor.
I had a Vintage Air installed in my 72 Estate Wagon, essentially the same car. Then & Now Restorations near Atlanta did the install. I'm sure they could help you with what they did.
You can see examples of a Vintage Air installation on YouTube. As far as a '72 Limited with no A/C, it very well may have been a northern car originally. Although I didn't grow up in Canada, I spent a lot of time up there and in the norther tier of US states ..... it was actually more common to see cars with no A/C than with A/C at that time in the late '70's and '80's.
I just spoke to a gentleman at a car show last weekend with a '70 GS 350. He bought an A/C kit from Vintage Air to put into his Oldsmobile, before it got stolen. He then purchased this GS which is a non-AC car and had the kit installed by a local shop. I was very impressed! The new heating/cooling control unit looked great in his car. It wasn't stock, but looked very nice (chrome knobs, etc.). It totally looked like it could be stock if you didn't know otherwise. He said it works great! The shop had to make a belt, bracket, and a pulley for some reason. It looked to me like it was a worthwhile upgrade! Craig
