Anyone ever pull a 455 out of a GS with removing the hood? The would be with no transmission and a carburetor lift set up.

A 350 can sneak out with hood on, why not the 455?
    No trans of course...

    It works :)

Notice I use a chain in a X pattern across the intake down to the heads (or whatever works for you), this keeps hoist low and engine stable...notice how close hood is so your bolt on carb adapter probably won't work (in fairness hood could be lifted up more too but that is where it settles) depending on design. Also, because of the design of the motor mounts they need to be unbolted from the engine before you lift it out (on an a/c car for sure not much room to go vertical with pass valve cover and a/c box so you have to slide engine forward). When putting it back in, engine in and more or less level, line up tranny, engage, bolt up, settle into position just slightly high (like 1/16"), bolt the engine mounts back to the block (this does take some contortions sometimes but I also mod my engine mounts a bit for more room), drop into full position, and run long bolts through mounts. Go look at them and the bolts and you'll see what I mean. Pulling the hood isn't a huge deal either, I just happened to have no help this time around when pulling it out ....putting back best to round somebody up to help, just makes linings up much easier. Pic taken at tightest point of the whole procedure.

Long story on the reason too, in the end turned out to be nothing really wrong but better to check then let things go boom.

MAC engine pivot plate, best thing you can have if you pull allot of engines.
