crazy sleeper factory car w tons of paperwork,45k original miles deal of the week? https://rochester.craigslist.org/cto/d/1979-buick-riviera-turbo/6599529079.html
I wanna see under the hood. His photos are mostly close ups of things that don’t get my attention anyway.
First year, very niceky ootioned (real leather is rather scarce as is the moonroof) plus the turbo. Condition docs excellent, probably will need bumper fillers but it’s priced right
Does appear extremely well documented and original, as well as in excellent condition for it's location and age. Negatives might be = FWD chassis (first year) and small V-6 albeit turbocharged.
These were robust cars, pretty much bulletproof, there were no issues with the fwd platform. The turbo V6 did 0 to 60 in the 9.5 second range, which for the size car and the time was considered to be extremely respectable. They are absolutely wonderful highway and Boulevard cruisers.
And it's on a trailer!!!! Local guy had one for sale for about 5 years, no takers. I had an 85, really liked it, nice slow cruiser but a bitch to sell.
My personal preference for the 79-85 Riv would be a 79 with a 350. I have been somewhat actively looking for a convertible in which case I will try to find a scarce turbo version. The 79 Riv was Motor Trends “Car of the Year”
Here's another one I saw on Craigslist today. Not mine. https://dothan.craigslist.org/cto/d/1979-buick-riviera/6577874505.html
I bought a 1978 Regal Turbo Coupe new. I never expected it to be a tire fryer, as it was quite plush, and I was new(ish) to Buicks. It didn’t impress me in the performance department, but it was real fun to drive after I reworked the suspension.
Lots for sale, some real low mileage cream puffs. Sort of has pimpy reputation, not in the muscle category! I like the body style, could get one and hope friends don't see me! https://www.ebay.com/sch/Cars-Truck...era&_mtrvfc=1&_stpos=43402&_nkw=Buick Riviera
Wow, you guys On this forum are just full of yourselves lately Thinking or pretending you’re more of a man or somehow others are less because because they choose to drive something other than a muscle car. Sounds like maybe you should be collecting Chevys or Fords since Buick’s have always been on the luxury side of the market, as you say, sort of a Pimpy reputation
I actually like the way these cars look, the problem with them is that they are uni-body and incorrect wheel drive! These would probably be more popular than the Regals if they had a full frames and were correct wheel drive all with V8s in them and such. And something other than the stupid hard to keep clean spoked hub caps! If I had more time, $$ and energy, I would convert one of these to correct wheel drive, sh!7 can the spoked hub caps for a set of Buick rally rims and drive the crap out of it!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-Buick...ash=item1a50f89be0:g:Q-AAAOSwfCpbBds6&vxp=mtr he put a " whole " 350 bucks into the " professional restoration " of the 350..LOL! Hellarious ebay ad,but! its a v8 platform...........!!
These aren’t unibody, they still have a frame. They are wrong wheel drive and four wheel independent suspension, but like the Toronado and El Dorado they have a longitudinal engine with a funky chain set up inside the hydromatic trans. I always thought a Toro with a 403 swap or an Eldo with a 472/500 swap would be cool, as would a Riv with an ‘86-‘87 TR intercooled 3.8 swap. Patrick
Aren't the frames integrated to the body as in welded to? The only way to remove the frame is to cut the floor out and part of the rocker? Or does it have the traditional perimeter bolt on frame? If its the above and I thought it was, that's why I called it a uni-body. If in its a bolt on perimeter frame, then why the flock isn't there a bunch of these converted to correct wheel drive!? I may have to do one if that's the case.
