When we speak of the demise of the musclecar, we always recite insurance premiums, and government mandates for safety & emissions.

We should mention George Hurst's departure from the business in the same breath. George took the company public in 1968. His partner Bill Campbell sold his half of the business and the Sunbeam Corporation (think electric can openers) bought it in 1970. By all accounts George wasn't utilized much after the sale, and headed west to live in California.

He apparently committed suicide in 1986. A very sad ending for a man so successful in so many ways.

Some personal shots from the era

    Linda / Nikki / Ja-Neen

Ja-Neen had 15 minutes of national fame later in the 60's. She apparently became involved with George Wallace during the 1968 campaign for the White House. She was a Dodge Rebellion girl at the time and this was one of her outfits.

Plug and brief review for Linda's book. Cover pic obviously Pomona, February 1968

There are a ton of pictures in the book that I'd never seen before - anywhere. She obviously knew - and still knows just about everyone in the car business. It's crazy. If I have a problem with the publication (besides printed in China) its how many wrong dates she has next to some of the pictures. I wish someone had helped her with it a little in that regard. That, and it skips around a lot. Reading about her early life was interesting. 3.5 of 5 stars. It'd make you a great Christmas gift.

    Brian,

Yes, this year at MCACN. Wouldn't surprise me if it is the same car, although I was at his garage in IL twice after 2012 and don't remember seeing it. The owner (Joe S.) is a big time H/O collector.
