AC Firewall Removal Help (Losing points on the man card) OK I have loosened up the passenger side inner fender. I can not get it to move much (maybe -3/4) it is hanging up on the bottom of the fender near the back of the front tire. Here is my question can I take a sawzall to the AC unit (fiberglass housing) with out damaging parts for the heater or other items? I think the only bolt I have not removed is the one behind the wheel well up against the fire wall.
What car & year do you have? 68-72 will require about the same procedure. You might get at it if you remove the inner fender. Others here have tried........not sure on the success rate. Check here for directions on almost any job you can imagine on a 70-72. George N. is a member here. www.buickperformance.com
Change the last one on the inside of the car. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=169182&highlight=heater+core+drill
Dude.........sawzall and Buick dont go too good together.....unless its a parts car giving life to others.......My advice is to take the time, go slow, do it right, and then go fast with class:TU:
Chris relax! It is all done with class. I just want the ac off. I'm not cutting the firewall just the ac fiberglass wart.
if you cut it off, are you eliminating heat too? if you are you can trim it, but I would remove the fender, get it off in one piece, sell it, use $$ to buy delete cover and new blower motor
oh....and while everything is apart it will be a good time to clean up the firewall and give it a nice new black finish
That was the plan. I might do it in sections (not the orginal plan). The engine bay looks great with out the battery (I hate clutter). So next purchase battery relocation kit.
Had to take the fender off to get the inner fender off. While i was at it i removed the heater core along with the ac wart. I will fab up something to block the holes left by the heater removal. Fear not it will look like classy.
